Visited with my adult son who lives locally - altogether a really interesting experience giving a great insight into life in prison for serious crime in the 20th century and before - a real eye opener, well-articulated both in what you see and in the excellent audio guide. Would benefit from an additional exhibit about present day prisons. In my view this exhibition might prove unsuitable for young children.

Step back in time and visit "Scotland's Toughest Jail". Opening in 1888 it closed in December 2013 and little changed within that period. Known as "Scotland's Alcatraz" you will walk through the halls, cells, former kitchen, shower block, booking in area, courtroom, segregation block, infamous silent cell and hospital complex and much more. This 6 acre site was Scotland's only true "Convict Prison" [to be sent here meant you had been sentenced to "penal servitude"] it was the home of the first state owned passenger carrying railway in Britain and in 1987 was the scene of the only time the Special Air Service [SAS] was used to end a domestic siege after an officer was held hostage on the roof for 4 days, ending in the early hours of the 5th morning with a daring raid. Hear former officers tell their stories at key points on the route in our award winning audio sets and enjoy the experience within our 5* multi award winning complex.

An awe-inspiring gorge that sharply drops nearly 200 feet.
Lovely Place to visit. please be mindful of the people that live in the small hamlet. keep to the foot path. it is a dangerous cliff path. so recommended that dogs kept on a lead. Narrow Path so no social distancing. wear suitable walking shoes or boots. there are no public toilets. nearest Cruden Bay.

You can enjoy our craft beer in our bar and see exactly where and how our beers are made as there is a massive window in the bar, overlooking the microbrewery. Pretty cool! We also specialise in artisan coffee and have our own unique blend which is available only in our Brew Toon Cafe bar. Serving snacks and all types of drinks til late!
Amazing tour with great beer and food too! Definitely worth a visit to this five-star brewery. Friendly, community feel to the tap room and the Cullen Skink is well recommended. Knowledgeable staff create and serve some exceptionally fine beers. The tours are great value with tastings and a beer flight to enjoy afterwards. This should be on everyone's pub-crawl list whether from Peterhead or not!
