Saint Mary's of the Barrens Historic District was founded in 1818; the church was started in 1827. The Shrine was built in 1929 to honor our Lady of the Miraculous Medal. The church is modeled after the Vincentian Motherhouse chapel in Rome, Monte Citorio. The church is decorated with paintings and has intricate design work on the walls and ceilings. It is a national center for Marian devotion.
We arrived around 9am and were given a comprehensive tour by Laurie, who had previously spoken to my wife. Laurie was very knowledgable about the history and goings on of the Mission. It was very well kept up and has a lot of history.

This is a small, working family farm. Take a tractor-pulled wagon ride to pick pumpkins off the vine. Or, choose pre-picked pumpkins from the yard, crawl on and under the straw, walk the corn maze, feed goats, go pumpkin bowling, sling pumpkins, play our mini farm golf, decorate pumpkins, milk the cow and more. Experience all the colors, sights and sounds of harvest on the farm. Groups welcome!
We've visited the pumpkin patch several times, and it gets better every year! They continue to add games and activities for the kids (mazes, bowling, etc) and you get a great bang for your buck. This is a family-owned establishment and they do a great job. Friendly and knowledgeable. You get to take a hayride to the patch to choose your pumpkin(s), feed goats and chickens and let the kids play. You can also buy pumpkins, gourds and other fall decor.

Perry County Veterans Wall of Honor is a local tribute to Veterans of all Branches of Service from peace time to War time. This beautiful monument honors all Soldiers from the Revolutionary War through the recent Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts. This monument is a must see when in the Perryville area.
This looks about finished now and it's just wonderful. I'm very proud of our town for putting this up. It's right by the park and the museum. It's outside so the weather is perfect now to come and visit. Benches for seating. Tour the museum. Walk through the park or play disc golf afterwards. There are restaurants nearby too.

What an amazing facial I had from Khala Young at Juste Moi Spa! She really knows her stuff and is such a kind person. It was my first time ever receiving a facial and She made me feel really comfortable, gave me a thorough consultation, and didn't rush through any of it! She literally spent over two hours with me and went through every detail about my skin, I mean she was explaining things that my dermatologist I have seen for years never even explained. I am now on the correct products for my skin and I cannot wait to get another treatment done! I was referred to her by a few of my friends who get facials done regularly and have been everywhere to find the best and they say she is absolutely the best! Since they have tried her out they have not felt the need to go anywhere else so I would definitely recommend her to any of you out there who are looking for that perfect skin specialist!

It is located on the second floor of the building. There is an elevator you can use. ONce you find the library go to the first door on the right and meet Sarah. She gave us a tour of the place and showed us where to look. There is only one wall of books, documents, etc. but has a wealth of information. You can use a computer connected to Ancestry.com for you to do research. However there is NO printing capabilities. You can save to the desktop and then email the items to your self. A little time consuming but at least you have access to Ancestry.com.
They have books on specific Families of Perry county. Most of them were from people who were interested in their history and but a book together. Some had lots of information in them.
They also have census, marriage and death certificates from 1821 on.
Sarah was wonderful and you must see her first to unlock all the cabinets for you.

In all honesty it has been a few years since I was here, but I loved it. You had to arrange for a viewing, but this lovely lady showed us around and we all got a real sense of what local living would have been like when the area was founded. I particularly liked the old cooling spring on site. The stone walls and foundation are also very cool to see in Perryville.
