A very large, beautiful and well maintained wooden cathedral. The interior is well worth a look with the gorgeous wooden arched ceilings and a big suspended cross at the alter.

I visited Koto museum several times. It's now located on the Prinsessestraat 43. If you want to know about the Surinamese culture in particular the Creole you are at the right place. You will hear many stories about the Koto and the Angisa. At the back they have a beautiful peaceful garden where you can sit and don't have the notice that you are in the city.

We saw several dolphins during taking the ferry from Johan en Margaretha and Fort Nieuw Amsterdam. This was not the short ferry trip most people do.

Fort Zeelandia was first built by the British and extended by the Dutch as a fortification on a prominent point on the Suriname river. It has mostly been a prison throughout the years, and even the scene of recent history with the political December murders in 1982. Now it is a rather gorgeous small museum about the history of Suriname. Outside is the statue of Queen Wilhelmina, also the monarch of Suriname in her days.

My husband and I went twice: once we got lost and couldn’t find the park, and the second time there was a tree in the road and our car couldn’t make it to the top. We walked the long road up and saw very little wildlife. The THIRD time, we went did a day trip with a guide from Orange tours. It was FANTASTIC! They require a group of at least 4 people. We learned about medicinal plants and saw two types of monkeys, frogs, and snakes! I would absolutely recommend going with a guide so that you know what to look for in the beautiful rainforest. It’s not well marked and extremely easy to get lost if you try to go on your own.

Historic and a little bit mysterious place. In the midst of the jungle, near the Suriname river suddenly there is a place with the remains of an old Jewish plantation: the ruin of a synagogue, stone tombs of Jewish people and wooden crosses above the tombs of non-Jewish people. In historical perspective it's the most important place in South America for the Jewish history.

Huge activity. A whirl of market merchants. Sections of vegetables, fresh fish, live crabs. live chickens, fruits, spices, too much to mention.

Paramaribo is a superb city to explore the local people in their daily walks of life and the colonial Dutch heritage which made the inner city a UNESCO world heritage, the other side of the coin. It’s a true melting pot of people from various ethnicities! It’s a safe place, based on my experience!

Astonishing to come across virtually an entire city made from wood that still constitutes the country's capital. Also a designated UNESCO world heritage site. One can only marvel at the fact that the place is still standing and in such superb condition.
