A wide variety of pyramids, temples and sculptures have all been found at this famous Mayan archaeological site.
Fabulous. This site is quite extensive and diverse. Do look for the Tower Palace (which seems quite unusual). Go inside and explore some of the tunnels. (There are bats, if you want to look for them.) There is a very interesting quadrangle with the Temples of the Sun and Cross. Dramatic. There is also a ball court although that takes a bit of imagination. This site is a major attraction - so get there early

A must visit archaeological site in Mexico!! Located in the heart of the 'selva', it's worth taking a guide to fully grasp the majesty of the Mayan civilisation in Palenque. Our favourite :)

A beautiful spot with some spectacular waterfalls & swimming spots. A great place to spend 90mins to break up the drive between Palenque & San Cristóbal

The waterfall is amazing. We loved walking behind it. It can get slippery, but it’s worth it and beautiful. It’s a short taxi ride to the falls, or you can take a collectivo to the entrance and a taxi from there to the falls. There is also a restaurant for lunch.

We are Aluxes Ecoparque a non-profit non-governmental civil association based in Palenque Chiapas. Due to all the destruction of the ecosystems in the last couple of years Aluxes was created. The mission: ecosystemic rescue. To start more than 10, 000 trees were planted on the property along with other plants to complement and balance the new ecosystem that was being created, along with that process the natural wetlands on the property were rehabilitated and the lagoon system was reintroduced. This work gave way to a series of microclimates that allowed species of local flora and fauna to reemerge. Today there is an incredible amount of wildlife living naturally there, making the park a beautiful place full of life and color. We have a variety of projects to help our mission along, we are the first wildlife rescue center in the state, working alongside local authorities we help rescue and rehabilitate animals that have been victims of cruelty and trafficking.
The ruins get all the attention but this zoo is amazing! Beautiful animals everywhere, wonderful little walk through an amazing little park! And the animals all looked very well taken care of which is the most important thing!

We loved it! Behind every corner we found new waterfalls and nice place to swim. It's a perfect day to chill, relax and swim there. We saw one restaurant around there and public toilet. Bring water shoes, some places can be slippery and muddy. Bring a bag for your garbage and don't leave it there. So sad there was garbage put in between tree roots etc. Keep the envirement and these amazing waterfalls clean. It's also very adventurous to walk around there!

A small museum near the Palenque Mayan archaeological site...well worth a trip. Having visited many Mayan sites throughout Mexico, Guatemala and Belize there is a considerable shortage of actual artefacts in this region ( many having been taken to Mexico City), so this is a rare chance to see some really outstanding artefacts...the ceramics are amazing, plus the royal tomb, and various carvings...beautiful and amusing!
