Best known as home to the statue "Eternal Indian," this park is set on high bluffs along the Rock River.
Although the Blackhawk statue is currently under wraps as its being restored, the lookout point is still open soaring high above the Rock River. There were RVs camped out when we visited and the park office was open. The Tate Campus was closed for a private event but the trails were also accessible. One of our favorite places to visit in Oregon—-very easy to get to. Scenic destination.

Named for a large sandstone butte along the Rock River, this park has no camping.
State parks are a treasure that should never be taken from the public. Fortunately, after being closed for a few months due to budget cuts made by the disgraced former governor, Rod Blagojevich, Castle Rock State Park and 10 other state parks were reopened by his successor, Pat Quinn, in 2009. Located near the town of Oregon, Castle Rock State Park covers 2,000 acres in Ogle County, on the banks of the Rock River. Established in 1921 by the "Friends of Our Native Landscape," the park's centerpiece is a bluff of exposed St. Peter Sandstone from the Middle Ordovician period, called Castle Rock. The bluff, which offers a scenic view of the river and surrounding greenery, is made up of newly exposed sections of white quartz while older areas have browner tints from the formation of limonite. For geologists, this area is very important. The bluff is along the axis of the Sandwich Fault Zone, separating Ordovician exposures form those of the Cambian period. Visitors can picnic in the park and kayak in the river and also climb a walkway to the top of Castle Rock, a natural monument which overlooks the Rock River. The surrounding area is very pristine, affording visitors a wonderful opportunity to enjoy a relaxing day in the country.

The Nash Home/Museum opened in 1962. It was the home of the Chester Nash family and was built in 1878 of Midwestern prairie-type architecture; square, with long porches and high ceilings. Chester's daughter, Miss Ruby Nash, taught school for 50 years from 1891 to 1941. Nash School, now Nash Recreation Center, was named after her. The Home is furnished with artifacts from all over the County.
We sent the Ogle Historical Society (email and phone listed on Trip Advisor) a request for a tour a few days before our visit to Oregon, and although they were busy with their big Candlelight Walk event (the Saturday after Thanksgiving) they gave us two options that weekend for a personal tour of the museum and home. Although the place seems to be more geared as an organized and extensive historical society, the home, museum, and memorabilia are not cluttered. We saw many items that sparked our interest, and Mica the volunteer had a local story for everything we asked about. Her passion for and knowledge of the local history made for some enthralling presentations. The two hours she gave us for all our individualized questions made for a very memorable experience!.
Our 8 building campus offers our community a holistic approach to health and happiness that serves to awaken and empower spirit, body and mind. Whether you want to pop in for one of our daily meditation classes, have a treatment from one of approximately 20 practitioners on-site, or you want to create your own personalized spa day for individuals or groups, we are here to support your needs.

Unique and interesting collection, but the best part is how proud the locals are of this collection. Make sure you talk to the librarians downstairs about the art work! Even my wife who generally doesn't appreciate artwork was interested. For a town this size to even have such a first-rate art collection is amazing! I hope they continue to put their pride to work as they continue to improve the presentation of their heritage of the Eagle's Nest Art Colony. What a contribution not only to their local history and beautiful country, but to creativity world-wide. Their collection could be an even better attraction if they displayed more about the history and artist for more of their pieces of art. I still have to rate them with a five star. And the locals will tell you that the so-called Pride of Oregon, a paddle-boat river cruise has been going "down hill" more so than down stream.
