As you wander along the jetty from the town of Noirmoutier you can enjoy as long or as little as you like bird watching - and it's free! While there we spotted over 30 different species during a good hour - ranging from the Whitethroat and Cetti warblers to Grey Plovers, Black Tailed Godwits and more. The best time is as the tide is coming in it brings the waders into the reserve.

Great and not that expensive, had loads of fun running around the dark shooting. You also get shown how to use your equipment correctly and the guy spoke good English

It is hard to imagine life on Noirmoutier back in the 9th c. when St. Philbert arrived to help the local population. Vikings still attacked and the body of St. Philbert had to be moved from the island. But the crypt of the old church remains and an interesting recording that tells the story. Finally, the remains of St. Philbert would end up in turns, one of the great pilgrimage churches in Burgundy.

interesting shop. chance to sample the caramel, the biscuits, but no chance to buy or drink water or juices (products are very sweet). Well set up and displayed. However, bottles of caramel (for crepes or as spread) that we bought were forcibly discarded by airport personnel, to our dismay. Not too expensive, but certainly not cheap. Quality very good!

We walked to this Market from or hotel on a Sunday. It was relatively easy to find as there are signs posted pointing the right direction.
Inside there is a big food produce area, and outdoors is your typical market clothing/soaps/candles/socks/books/crockery. I noticed some of the pricing on items and it did seem quite pricy. Except for the produce/cheeses/oysters and meat - these were dirt cheap!
Lots of people everywhere, but a nice way to inject some money into the local economy here and support the smaller individuals

This 12th century medieval castle, one of the best-preserved in Vendée, has well weathered along the centuries well and managed to retain all its charm. Today, the castle contains a museum inside the keep.
If you manage to get in the castle in spite of its rather strange opening hours, it is well worth the small admission charge. The man on the admission desk gave us a leaflet which translated the information displays to English. The museum element of the castle was interesting, but strangely barely mentions the castle itself! However we mostly enjoyed the castle for the excellent views from the top. You could see a long way and it was very scenic.

Lovely place to spend some time. Lots of contrasting features, sand and rock formations. Mainly families on this beach.
