Our group stayed in the log cabins at this resort and we just loved it. The cabins were warm and spacious which allowed us to dry off nicely after a wet and cold day. We did a Japanese barbecue in the communal barbecue area and it was one of our best dinners in Japan. We also had a nice walk on the beach in the morning. A wonderful experience!

Shiroyama Park is essentially the foundation of the castle which was occupied by the Naito clan before the Meiji Restoration. When the Emperor returned to power, it was dismantled. There are a few standing monuments placed where watchtowers used to be, and you can still see the foundations of gates and the like, with a bell on the summit rang daily. A peaceful place with the best view of the city!

The signs are in Japanese, but you have to drive past the brewery, the shrine and the youth nature house and then take the small road to the left. It is not well maintained bit keep going until you reach the parking lot. There is space for about 7-8 cars. Sticks are available at the start of the trail, you can use them and return them after your hike, very handy.
The trail is steep bit well maintained and doable for persons with some experience. After 30min you will reach the waterfall, very high: about 70m. There was not a lot of water when we were there, but it was still impressive. It is on the top 100 of Japanese Waterfalls.
If you walk another 1-1.5hr you are at the top. The trail first goes to a pass, then it descends a bit (keep left at the crossing) towards a river which you need to cross. Then the final ascend starts, through the forest next to a small stream. It is very silent and peaceful. At the top you have good views towards the sea and there is some space to sit. All in all the hike took us about 4.5hr, including half an hour at the top and 10min at the waterfall.
