If you're exploring the history of New Hampshire, this bridge is a must see. Spanning the North Branch of the Sugar River, the original Corbin Covered Bridge was built in 1845. In 1993, it was destroyed by fire, as were 2 other covered bridges in New Hampshire. The state wanted to build a contemporary designed bridge in its place. Wanting to preserve what was an important part of Newport history, local residents had a different idea. Covered bridge builder Arnold Graton constructed the bridge you see here today. The bridge is a short drive up route 10 north to the pine tree lined Corbin Rd, a couple of miles from the center of Newport. There are tables for picnicking in summer and fall. Beautiful area for leaf peeping.

This one's a no brainer. Whether you're a local looking make a crumble for tonight's dessert, or you're sitting on your bum at the lake, looking for something to do on a cloudy day, go pick some blueberries! Bartlett's Farm is a cute little family owned blueberry farm, friendly, professional, and anyone hanging out in July and August should come here with the little ones and show them where blueberries actually come from. It doesn't take long (we picked eight lbs in about 20 minutes...I'm eating them as I write this in my NJ backyard). I made pancakes this morning, I'll have muffins tomorow, and if I happen to exercise some self-restraint, I may have enough left over for that crumble I was talking about. Cheap, educational, family...fun! Go here and pick!

The Library Arts Center in Newport NH is a rare find. It's attached to back of the Richards Free Library so you can easily miss it when you're driving by. But look closely, there is usually a sign at the end of the library driveway that will tell you what's going on at the Center. I was here in July for the presentation about doll houses given by a local woman. This was the culmination of an exhibit of doll houses that had been made or renovated by her. The houses were for sale and proceeds went to the library. The Center holds many art exhibits from paintings to quilts. During the Christmas season, it has a Christmas shop with handmade items from local artists and crafts people. It also offers different types of art classes for kids and adults. Concerts by local musicians. There is something going on all year long! Check out libraryartscenter.org for the calendar of events.
