What a fabulous tour....the house and grounds were exquisite. Our house docent was period dressed which added to the enjoyment of the information she shared with us. The grounds had suffered from a recent storm but some of the camellias survived and were beautiful. I really enjoyed the groves of bamboo and and they had many different species. I was really intrigued by the story of the nearby oil field fracking into the salt dome which flooding it and caused the collapse of the then owner's nearby house. It was amazing they actually had a film showing the collapse. Highly recommend.

Excellent tour of an Antebellum home owned by a wealthy sugar cane plantation family. Docents very knowledgeable and friendly. Beautiful home all decorated with mostly original family possessions and period items. Owned now by the National Trust for Historic Places, it is well cared for and maintained. A must see if interested in the plantation history of Louisiana.

I visited on July 22nd and was the only one on the tour. It was short and sweet and I learned quite a bit about rice. Who knew? The store is fun -- tons of souvenirs to sift through as well as samples of their rice and also Mello Joy coffee. Neat place to visit in New Iberia.

The oldest rice mill in the United States, it's amazing to step inside this facility that continues to produce Konriko rice. Take the tour. You start with an interesting slide show about the mill and the history of rice in south Louisiana. Then, you'll go into the mill. While you only stay on the first floor, you get a great understanding of what is happening in every corner of the mill. After, stop in the store for some specialty products you won't find at the supermarket.

The folks at the reception were so very pleasant and friendly (as all folks in LA). The visit was very informative and the man made himself available to answer all of our questions...the exhibits are well displayed and explained, and full of surprising artifacts making it well worth taking the time to drop by.

pretentious and overpriced. there is a large dining area inside, an outside area and many locals clustered around the bar area. service when we were there was negligent and downright rude. When we walked in a surly waiter told us we could eat "here" (indicating the bar) or "out there" (indicating the dining room). We chose "there" since the bar was dark and dank looking.
Our waiter Luke seemed to be more interested in setting up for a party apparently than serving us, and was arguing loudly with another waiter about something the entire time we tried to enjoy a meal.

Parking is about a block away.

The Ahi Tuna salad was simply a piece of pre-fab ahi tuna (factory-coated in white sesame and chilled - not seared as promised). Nothing special.

The steak my husband ordered came cold. Had to be microwaved and then it was overdone.

We felt totally ripped off by the experience and baffled that it got recommendation from the tourist center in New Iberia. Would not return or recommend.

The Blue Butterfly Boutique

Reviewed By bfglee - Washington, Pennsylvania

The Blue Butterfly is one of those places that if I lived here would get lots of my time and money. The place is just so fun and inviting right down to the fact that there is an entire room built for the owner's (Denise) dog (Sadie Belle) to stay while she works. I also love the exclusive line of jewelry by Mia Rustica that they carry there. This line is made by an artist out of Washington State. They also carry different products from a number of local artists. I also love all of the handmade bath stuff that Denise makes and carries. And let's not get started about all of the other wonderful things in the shop. They also do special events and sales frequently. My nieces will be attending Sadie Belle's birthday party in December. Lol. I just love this place!! Melanie is also a wonderful addition to the store who can guide you to any number of beautiful gifts (or stuff for yourself!). If you find yourself in the area make your way in. You won't regret it.

Spanish Lake

More than 240 bird species have been identified frequenting this small and shallow lake.

Reviewed By Cajuncass - New Iberia, Louisiana

This little lake is very close to New Iberia with an easy boat launch if you want to just spend a some time on the water, watch some birds and probably see some alligators and turtles. There's no real picnic area, but we take a blanket to spread out and that works for us. We wish there was a real restroom, but the portables will do if we have to "go." Be sure to take some "wet wipes" for your hands. The kids can throw a Frisbee or football and run around. Be sure to pack you own drinks and snacks as there are no concessions. In the summer there's a funny bird (egret) that hangs around the boat dock begging for handouts. The lake itself is pretty & it's relaxing to take a ride around it. We take visitors here because it's close to our home & we can usually spot an alligator or two or three. Some reviews mention a "rude lady" who followed them as they drove around the lake. Well, there are signs that tell you that there is a parking/use fee, so just stop by the bait house and pay the $2.00. Once you are on the "other side" she can't see you and if you are fishing then you have paid the $2.00 fee.
