Earth formation believed to be of significance to Mojave Indian warriors.
I have been to the "Mystic Maze" many times, and laugh! It was an old timer who also laughed while explaining the so-called mystery. No, it was not Indians or space men who carved the groves in the terrain, look for yourselves. Like all roads lead to Rome, all the groves lead down a wash where the "new" Topock bridges were being built. Using mules to pull Fresnos" and srcape surface rock to build a road into the river for pile drivers. Under rhe Arizona side you can still see pilings used as a temporary bridge as concrete footings were poured. Yes, the mystery is a myth, but it is fun to believe they are Indian running groves, but examine for yourselves. Groves terminate where scrapingd from another ridge form new paths, carrying surface rock, and used in bridge construction.

You'll find some interesting things if you just take the time to take a few off the beaten path roads... Havasu National Wildlife Refuge is a whole lotta water in the desert and "Catfish Landing" is just a nice place to rest. Nestled just south of Interstate 40 in Arizona just before the California State line and along the Colorado River. People say there is some good fishing here.

This is a small museum, but there is alot crammed into it, and there is something for everyone. Fossils? Got it! Harvey House and railroad memorabilia? Got it! Native American history? Got it! Old photo, memorabilia, and tons of information about Needles? Got it! Even Spike (remember Snoopys brother?) has a place here. The museum docents are super friendly and knowledgable. Worth the stop, especially since this little gem only charge a $2.00 donation. We spent over an hour in there. While your there, stop by their thrift store next door. They have great prices and we found some interesting items there. HINT: Look at a map before you go, they are a little hard to find. We found it because I remember from google maps that they were near the old train station (oh, before I forget....take an extra 10 minutes to walk around this building AFTER you go thru the museum, expecially the back side). and that there was a NAPA store on Broadway Street that was close to it.

While traveling along Route 66 and the area in Arizona we stumbled across the Pirates Cove Resort in Needles, CA. What a nice susprise! The resort is set on the Colorado River with beaches, water taxis and beautiful scenery. They have several cabins for rent right on the river. The area is well maintained and inviting. We chose to have a drink and a snack at the restaurant. We were there in the 'off season' so it was not busy but there were several groups dining. The service was friendly, prompt and inviting. We ordered the Cubano sandwich, their version of the Cuban sandwich. It was delicious! It was served with seasoned fries, also delicious. Our server told us about the resort and the area. There is boating, off road adventures and sight seeing. We will make a return trip when we travel southwest later this year.
