In a relatively new Mishkin's neighborhood, a short walk from a scenic viewpoint over Volga river (which here makes a large bend, then allows a sweeping glance) this monument stands, which consists of a simple square paved and bordered by stone slabs commemorating the Russian fallen in WWII.
The monument is thus simple and austere, and this increases the emotion: which maxes out when you read (on stone slabs as well) some letters written from the front to the families, by soldiers who never returned home .
We had a brief English summary of letters from our group guide, but the full text of these letters must have been very moving, because several mates of our group (all Russians except of us) could not hold back the tears.

Myshkin, small town on the banks of Volga River, sees a busy tourist attendance, also because it is a stopping point for tourist boats that sail along the river (in the case of cruises that depart from Moscow and that last for three days, this is the farther landing you reach).
The city has been able to take advantage of this tourist flow and well organized many of the sights it owns: historic homes, churches, traditional activities, ethnographic museums.
However, even the geographic location of Myshkin is an attraction in itself: in fact the city is built on a natural Terrace overlooking a bend of Volga river, thus enabling a wide and impressive view of it.
The embankment of the Volga is therefore the most beautiful view of the city you can enjoy. Walking south of the landing point, and especially towards the north, the riverside pedestrian path allows to fully enjoy the views across the river; views that become fabulous if (as it happened to us) the weather is favorable.
The riverfront is also decorated with a semicircular temple, reminiscent of that of the near Yaroslavl; and the landing point is enlivened with stalls selling typical food products, such as smoked fish (including sturgeon) wonderfully tasting.

Awful, the "museum" is just a collection of handmade cheap stuff, like you can find in almost any provincial town. Maybe you'll like it if you travel with little children, but i really do not recommend otherwise. Do not waste your time, better take a walk on a Volga embankment.

The only one in the world! Our museum dedicated to a Mouse.Myshkin is a small, quiet uyezd city, in which there are many tiny museums. Myshkin is a city of romantics. Here you will spend a happy day and, we are sure, you will want to come again! The Volga is wide and wide, and the city is a little pre-malenkiy, for a day you will bypass its small streets, admire the merchant's mansions, look into the old courtyards and go up to the bell tower of our Assumption Cathedral - it's 72 meters above the ground. For each arriving to us, we have our own offer and a wide game program for children (with their own tourist base "Mouse Mink"). If you are going to visit Myshkin, do not doubt - this is a great idea! Do not delay the fees. Take the essentials - and go! We are waiting for you! You walk on foot or on a tour boat, or maybe on your own transport. We will pick you a guide who will tell you about our museum state and our famous city in a slow and loving way.
A cosy place dedicated to mice. Toys, cartoons, books, everything about the mouse. Fun and lovely. Go there if you have a quarter of an hour to spare.

Petr Smirnov, the founder of brand "Smirnoff", was born in a small village near Myshkin. He is very respected in the town. In this small museum, situated in a traditional Russian wooden house, you can see some artifacts of that time, learn about "The Smirnov Empire" and even try a sample of vodka (and bite Russian specialty - salted cucumber).
