Fields of the Wood is a Bible based theme park located in the Great Smoky Mountains. From Prayer Mountain to Ten Commandment Mountain and to the All Nations Cross, God's word unfolds through marble and stone. Admission is free, but donations are welcome. The park is open daily from sunrise to sunset. The Gift Shop and Cafe hours vary according to the season.
We saw this as an attraction near Murphy and figured we would visit. Being the season of lent, I was able to talk my husband into going.
We are not very religious people (we don't attend church on a regular) however, we really did like this park. There was much to see and read. The stairs are steep and give a good work out. The views are amazing.
I honestly learned a few things and it was great to expose the children to something a little different.
If you are an avid church goer, Prayer Mountain has many different scriptures which are affiliated with every state.
We would recommend for everyone to take the time and visit. The gift shop had many wonderful gifts to purchase and the staff was very friendly.

Located in the mountains of western North Carolina, the John C. Campbell Folk School offers weeklong and weekend courses in traditional craft, fine art, music, dance, cooking, gardening, nature studies, photography, storytelling and writing. Founded in 1925, the school is based on the Danish folk school model, and strives to provide experiences in hands-on learning and community life that are joyful and enlivening. Students live on campus and share family-style meals. Each day begins with early morning music and storytelling. Nature walks, tours of local artisans' studios, evening music, and dance programs are part of each week's schedule. A founding member of the Southern Highland Craft Guild, the school also operates a craft gallery that represents over 300 regional artists.
This place is a great experience for lots of folk art classes. I took metal smithing. It was great with a very knowledgeable instructor and assistant. The setting is gorgeous with housing and classrooms sprinkled throughout the woods and fields. It was very quiet and blissful. If you wanted light entertainment there were dances and various musical events. I will be going back for sure.

The River Walk trail is well maintained and a relaxing view is given to you as you walk beside the rivers. We took the primitive trail along the the wetlands and got to the train depot downtown but you can stay on a gravel path and get to the train depot that way. Also If you park at the baseball fields and walk all the way downtown, you can look at the different stores, eat, then walk down Valley River Street back to the baseball fields and your car. This relaxing walk was the highlight of our trip.

River’s Rim Studio is a small, charismatic shop located in Brasstown, NC. The shop owner, Teri Jones, is especially nice and will answer any questions you may have. Although a small shop, it is packed full of really nice pieces and is laid out well...MoreThank you for your visit. I love sharing the art of the mountains with my customers!

We stopped here for a short walk to see the falls and swimming hole at their base. The trail and bridges are well maintained by the National Forest Service and there is a public restroom and adequate parking. Pets must be on leash. Picnic tables are available and side trails take visitors to the water. The trail to above the falls is a bit steep and is unpaved.

We did not stay at Harrahs Cherokee Valley River because we live close by. However, we do enjoy visiting the casino for play. Employees are always nice and helpful. The only thing I would suggest is that River Valley get some decent restaurants for their customers/clients

I was unable to find a street address for the dam itself, but I was able to get directions by looking for Hiwassee Dam on Google Maps. It's a very quiet place with few visitors. This must be one of those roads less traveled. There are restrooms and a small picnic area. It was interesting to see the dam (307 ft.) but there is no visitor's center. There are some lovely views of the lake though.

We came across the museum by accident but we were very happy that we did. It cost 3.00 per person and was worth it . They had very interesting items and the volunteers who work there were very knowledgeable and helpful.

This is a great place with so much stuff. The inventory is constantly changing and is a fun place to go to. Just to walk through there is like visiting a museum and brings back memories from my childhood. I love this place and have found many unique items. They have many beautiful antiques all mostly at reasonable prices. Items are constantly changing so if you see something you like, I suggest you purchase it now because it may not be there tomorrow.
