Often overlooked by English-speaking tourists, Muenster is a small university city near the Dutch border. The Altstadt (old town) was rebuilt after WWII to resemble its medieval predecessor, and you'll find most museums and historic attractions are here. For trendy clubs and restaurants, head over to the Hafen ("harbor") district.

This 12th-century building is where the Westphalian Peace Treaty was ratified.
With a typical Gothic façade, Muenster's town hall is a mid-14th century edifice. The characteristic gable was rebuilt true to the original in the 1950s. In 2015, it was awarded the European Heritage Label as the "Site of the Peace of Westphalia", which seems to be such a well fitting name for a place like Muenster, mainly a University and residential city where the number of bicycles exceed the number of people and where the old town is beautifully surrounded by a park.

Been to a lot of churches and monasteries across Europe and this one is well worth a look. Despite the external renovations inside is immaculate and very inspired. The astronomical clock is outstanding and the structure itself very imposing. My only criticism was the beggars at the door....!!

The market is pretty large and offers a wide variety of quality products. Also there’s plenty of places to find (and eat) delicious snacks or meals.

We had some time to spend whilst in Münster ( close to where we live) and decided to visit the museum, not having been there for years. My family has visited here twice now and not yet seen the museum in its entirety. It's really well-curated and organized into several sections, including dinosaurs and how they are related to birds, the natural history of the region, naturalist expeditions across time, and an amazing special exhibit on nature in the darkest regions of our planet--the deep sea and caves. Though most of the explanatory material is in German only, the visual displays and hands-on exhibits still make sense and inform non-native speakers. The museum also has a planetarium which we didn't visit this time but I believe is also worth visiting. All in all, an interesting place to visit.

A fantastic historical church. The iron cages up the church tower are spooky - but the history behind it is fascinating.

Nice little botanical garden. Well worth seeing, particularly if you're near the Schloss. You can stroll in the gardens and see exotic plants (some animals, too) in the green houses.

The LWL-Museum fur Kunst und Kultur unites 1,000 years of art, ranging from the early Middle Ages through to the present. Guided tours, workshops and artists’ talks offer new ways of approaching art. Concerts, readings, dance, theatre and film attract the public into the foyer, the Lichthof in the old building as well as into the Auditorium. The museum concept takes into account the special needs of visitors with disabilities. Thanks to such highlights as the Soest Antependium, works by the tom Ring family of painters, the collections of expressionists artworks and of contemporary art the museum has achieved international recognition. The museum shows changing exhibitions across a floor space of approximately 1,000 square metres, with additional spaces for studio exhibitions and presentations of contemporary art. Since 1977, the museum has been the organizer of Skulptur Projekte every ten years, most recently in 2017, examining public space as a site for art.
We visited the LWL Museum mainly because the weather was pretty bad and an easy city stroll not much fun. But now I'm truly thankful for bad weather as it allowed us to discover this beautiful and highly interesting museum. The art collection is huge and covers almost one thousand years of sculptures, paintings, icons, all of a truly outstanding quality. Also the museum building is amazing in itself ... don't let the exterior fool you - once inside you will be stunned by the space, light and architecture! If you are into art - don't miss the LWL!

My second visit to Allwetterzoo on Christmas Day. I enjoyed seeing the new exhibits, new arrivals and everything that had changed since my last visit. It was nice to be there whilst it was so quiet and I even had the chance to speak with the curators and keepers about my favourite animals. I enjoyed the sea lion show a lot. This is such a lovely Zoo with so many nice things to see. The day was cold and rainy but it didn’t matter as there were plenty of opportunities to shelter without missing out on anything. The restaurant was also really good. Very happy to return after two years and looking forward to coming back again in the future!
