The Flint Hills Discovery Center is a dynamic tribute to the last major stand of unbroken tallgrass prairie. This 35,000 square foot must-see attraction includes interactive exhibits highlighting the science, history and culture of the ecoregion from pre-history to present day. An immersive experience theater with panoramic photography and special effects shown on a 120-degree curved screen is the perfect starting point for an exploration of the magnificent Flint Hills of Kansas.
GO IN!! This venue has its staple of information that is constant, but the ongoing events are well worth the visit. The Flint HIlls Region is an ecosystem that most don't know about. Well worth the time!!

Very personable staff are at the ready to answer questions. You can spend as much or as little time as you need to take in the array of every kind of spider, beetle, and roach imaginable. (The walking stick insects were my favorite.) You can even purchase your very own spider to take home. Our group consisted of 4 adults and one teenager, but while we were there a couple of young children came in and they seem to love it. So definitely interesting for all ages. Beautiful gardens surrounding the zoo building plus a great little coffee shop nearby called Arrow where you can round out your visit to the KSU campus.

Living in the area we'd been many times through the early years with our children, and now are taking grandchildren. Although the zoo spent many $$ to build a new ticket office/gift shop and an education center, the animal exhibits are sadly lacking. It is understood the zoo is small and land-locked, but there doesn't appear to have had much spent improving the number of animals or their habitats. Some construction is currently going on at the moment. The playground is very nice for small children, but that shouldn't be the focus of a zoo. When our children were little, there was a nice children's section but that is merely a walking loop now with little to see. The number of flamingos is impressive but their enclosure is really small for their number. The education center appears to be for administrative purposes and social events. I couldn't take grandchildren in last week because the person selling tickets said their daycamp was using it and "there isn't much to see anyway." Overall, disappointing. I had already purchased a family membership for this visit but justified that knowing the membership is reciprocal with other zoos.

I took a dear out of town friend here. Though it was early spring, the grounds were lovely and under construction for expansion. Staff were busy planting and tending. It was very peaceful. Located conveniently next to the Insect Zoo. Also easy access off Denison. No cost to stroll.

Let your visit to the museum shrink or expand with your available time. There are beautiful permanent pieces and at two or three special exhibits that change every few months, so that there's nearly always something new to see. Admission and parking are free, but donations are encouraged.

This one is my favorite in town. We are here a lot. Easy walking around it, has nice pool, fun splash park and playground. The rose garden is nice. We use it for bicycling, basketball, summer music, walking, Very close to Aggieville if you get hungry or thirsty. Park benches throughout.

Liquid Art Winery and Estate is located in Manhattan, Kansas. It is perched on top of a hill and is comprised of a full production winery, tasting room, event center and Estate vineyard. Offerings include wine tastings, hard cider tastings, wine by the glass or wine bottles. Visit for an experience found no where else in Kansas!
Spent an afternoon tasting delicious wines and ciders both in the tasting room and out on the patio overlooking the vineyard. My wife and I both felt like we had teleported back to the Sonoma wineries we visited earlier this year because of both the quality of the wine and beautiful landscape surrounding the area. I highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Manhattan.

Trail is something of a misnomer. I suppose in that the water goes one way and you go with it. Prettiest part of the Kaw is from the Grant Avenue Bridge in Junction City to Ogden take out. From Ogden to Manhattan is nice. Further down the river you get the more development and trash (both new and old stuff) you will encounter.

Gorgeous tap room, but below average beer that leans heavily toward over-hopped varieties, with practically no other decent offerings.

Specializing in paintings by regional artists, both representational and abstract, as well as ceramics, photographs, and sculpture, there are regular exhibitions throughout the year. Only the Best 2015 exhibit until early January! Gallery located in the historic downtown of Manhattan, KS. Key words? Flint Hills Art and two floors of art for you to explore regional artists. And the resident dachshund, Arty, is the gallery greeter.
