It was only the second time that I walked over a frozen lake and I really start to love it! There were small sleds you could take, you can skate or just walk. I took one of the sleds and really felt like a child again! It's a great experience and definitely a must-do if you stay in Luleå.

Of Sweden's 71 original church towns, only 16 are left today. The majority of these have been reduced to a remnant. Gammelstad has the country's largest and best preserved church town with 408 cottages comprising 553 rooms. The church town presumably arose from a combination of several factors: the long distances, merchants' needs for storage and accommodation at the marketplace, the church stables and last but not least the population's duty to attend church regularly. The oldest mention of Gammelstad Church Town is in Johannes Bureus' depiction of his visit here at Christmas 1600: "All farmers have their cottages near the church at a place they call The Hill". Unfortunately Bureus does not mention the age of the church town, but the first cottages were presumably built in the mid-16th century. Gammelstad Church Town was put on the UNESCO World Heritage List on 7 December, 1996.The World Heritage Committee's reasoning was as follows: "Gammelstad Church Town is a remarkable example of the traditional church town of northern Scandinavia. It admirably illustrates the adaptation of conventional urban design to the special geographical and climatic conditions of a hostile natural environment." The World Heritage area includes the church itself, surrounded by the Church Town, the well-to-do areas, the public buildings and certain sections of the more recent permanent buildings. The church town tradition, i.E. The custom of spending the night in church cottages in connection with church weekends, was a decisive factor for conferring world heritage status.
It is really nice with an "old" charm. You will learn the history and how the people lived back then. Further will you have a great possibility to purchase hand crafted gifts and also collects some Pocemon Go.
It was really fun for the kids, but please prepare them with mosquito oil to avoid to many bites.

The attached library is nice and at 2 PM one day we participated in a Gong Meditation. It was unusual and pleasant and free. That evening there was a series of Rock Concerts for about 200 SEK. We did not stay. The building is modern and nice.

This is a nice place for those that like military, and specially air force, stuff. The museum contains airplanes from the 1950 until 2000, a S37 Viggen simulator (very fun!), and communications equipment and other interesting things. Cheep to enter and knowledgeable staff, as they are the ones operated the aircrafts ones upon a time.

Teknikens Hus is the northernmost science centre in Sweden and the permanent Exhibitions in Teknikens Hus reflect the region and its technology. Here visitors can explore mining, steel production, forestry, hydroelectricity, astronomy, space technology, flight and aerodynamics, the everyday technology in our homes and many other things. Adjacent to the exhibition hall are several public workshop facilities and also an outdoor area with exhibits and activities used in the summer season. The exhibition also includes a small Planetarium where the universe and starry skies are shown together with programs about space technology and full dome films with different themes. At the shop Kullagret, you find unique souvenirs and toys, experiments, books, posters and gifts for all ages. Restaurant Husman Kitchen serves lunch and coffee.
It is like a museum for tech staff and mining process, I was there with some friend and we spend a really good time experiencing some really amazing science and other funny things for kids and family. I recommend this place for everyone.

I like how this church is situated in the middle of the city. I use it to get my bearings when I am out and about exploring the city. The inside of the church is simple but very beautiful. Make sure you get a picture of the altar from near the entrance and also of the pipe organ (which is at the 2nd level above the main entrance) from when you are near the altar.

I discovered it "by accident"! I was spending the weekend in Luleå, the weather had been unplesant on Saturday, but Sunday was a nice day! Sunny and quite warm! We even took our bathingsuits but the water was still too cold. Perfect for a good hike (several longer or shorter trails), ideal for a lunch or a fika by the lake. The landscape is amazing, and you find plenty of places to camp and light a fire! If you have a kayak, it´s also nice to paddle a bit! Take good hiking boots because it´s wet most of the time! Will definitely go there again ;)

The vies over the different parts of Luleå is nice and the landscape quite beautiful. You have two different trails to choose from and a lot of pleasant places to have a picnic, a fika or just relax ;) You can even camp there!
Specially beautiful at sunset (midnight sun)!

Beware that the museum is open only between Midsummer and mid-August! During this time, besides the museum, you can also ride a steam engine and visit Gammelstad!
If you go there and the museum is closed, like I did, you can, at least, see a lot of old trains and engines parked outiside! The trip is not in vain, since a lot of models are outisde and the environment is quite nice :)
