Lonavala is one of the twin hill stations located near to each other, the other being Khandala. These hill stations are very popular getaway spots for people from Mumbai and Pune, which are very well-linked with Lonavala by road and rail. Monsoons are the best time to visit Lonavala/Khandala.

Korigad is a fort near Lonavla located at 929m above sea level. It is an easy trek to reach to the top, starts on a muddy road, takes you through a jungle of Karvy, and then the 740-stepped-stairway leads you straight to heaven. On the top, at first sight you are greeted with 2 beautiful lakes. Benches have been built on the strait between the lakes to just sit still and soak in the serenity. The fort walls and the main gate are still intact and well maintained, one can walk over the 2km wall! The view from the top is breathtaking to say the least. We visited on Monday September 30. Being a week day we had the fort to ourselves :) A 10th grader from the base village accompanied us as a guide. It was a welcome break from his studies, he said, to visit his favoritest place and also get paid for it. We got the perfect weather with intermittent cloudy and clear skies and myriad of colorful and scented wild flowers in full bloom. On our way back we drove through fog to return back to the Machan. Honestly I didn't want this day to end.

Trek to Tikona fort was an outstanding experience, so far this is the best and cleanest/least polluted trek I have come across in Maharashtra. It takes approximately 1 hour to reach the peak from where one can enjoy exhilarating and panoramic views of Pawna lake and the surrounding region. So guys, enjoy this trek and please please don't litter. There aren't too many concession stands for food/water, so carry your own water.

Fort Rajmachi is a very popular destination for Trekkers and Nature Lovers. Mountain Top Camping at Rajmachi has a Camping Site (named as GO. NEE. DA. WADI), close to village Udhewadi on the plateau of Fort Rajmachi. GO. NEE. DA. WADI is in fact a Botanic Park developed by an NGO. There are 2 dormitories in GO. NEE. DA. WADI for camping in peaceful natural surroundings. There are ample open spaces for pitching Tents for those who love Tent Camping. Mountain Top Camping provide tasty homely food to campers. Transport from Lonavala to Rajmachi and return is also arranged on specific request.
I am writing this post so that it will help people to contact right people on Rajmachi. People Normally visit Rajmachi during May end or June first week as fireflies are seen while climbing the fort. Usually vehicles do go to the top of the fort ( till the main plateau region , not to the top of the fort ). There is a village at top of the fort where usually everyone stays at night. Following are the details that may help : 1. Local Jeep Service : Akhil Sheikh : 9623150280 2. Sawant Bungalow ( Where staying & Food can be arranged ) : 9226125535 , 9881215091, 9011564522 , 9209821826 Mostly there is no range to the cellular service at the top, one might contact Mr. Akhil Sheikh as he is mostly stationed in Lonavala. Mostly, post 1st week of June there is heavy rainfall and it is difficult to take the vehicles to the top. I will highly recommend to take a 4x4 vehicle if you plan to take the vehicle on the top. Hope this post helps people who plan to visit Rajmachi

Great place for a one day outing family and friends. Also a great place for one night camping. Many agencies arrange a tent like stay in winters. It is easily reachable from Pune by private vehicle. Good road, highly crowded, popular place. Best place to visit is winter and early monsoon...however as the rains start it gets so crowded that it becomes a big headache driving here in a car. Driving bikes here is easier.

Its a must visit place in Lonavala. Its a 30-40 min trek from the bottom to the top. And the view is stunning from every corner. In rainy season a rain coat is a must because Umbrella won’t work because of the heavy wind. In summer carry water bottle with you and please don’t carry food because you might attract monkeys unknowingly.

Lonavala is a weekend destination for folks in Mumbai or Pune and while we included it in itenary, we also had a plan to visit the Narayani Dham Temple after reading some good reviews. This is enroute to Lonavala and not really that far from Pune. Went in with no real expectations just looking for some spiritual experience but it was mind-blowing. Again similar to Iskcon – gardens, fountains, huge temple complex, cow shed, lodge for visitors, kids play area and daily food options in this temple too. The main deities being Ganesha, Hanuman and Narayani Devi, each idol beautifully adorned and decorated. There are no restrictions on photography here and so spend some time experiencing both with your eye and your camera’s. One also gets to feed cows at the Gaushala or cow shed by buying a portion of fodder for ₹50 or grab a food coupon for a meal served at the temple complex for self. Though we did not try the food, we found out that the coupons get sold out pretty quickly and the meal is very delicious. There were a few shops selling pooja and decorative items wherein we grabbed a few things as well. A well maintained washroom and a parking area were the other facilities which were a plus.
