Wilson Creek

I love Wilson's Creek. I've been over 10 times in the past 2 years. Camping Riverside, hiking and swimming by day. There are so many amazing trails, waterfalls, swimming holes, and the gorge! The visitor center is nice to visit, learn about the area and pick up some maps. Most areas there is no cell service so download offline maps or have a paper map w you if new to the area. It's very lush, which requires rain. Be prepared to get wet. Last week we were relaxing on our tubes in the gorge. Out of nowhere rain, hail and crazy wind. Get outside and explore!

Jim, our host for the afternoon was funny and very informative about the wine selection. The tasting room was in the basement of the business and the set up was great....our first time at a sit-down tasting. Six Waterpots has a wide variety to sample. We really enjoyed the fruit wines and the muscadines.

I went here as a child in a big school group and loved it.
I returned a few months ago as an adult. My hubby and I were the only ones there so it was just us and the tour guide. Very low key and comfortable. We got to explore at our own pace.
Definitely recommended.

The park spans a small section across Lenoir but the city plans to extend it across the county. Don't know when or if it will happen. There are benches to rest but not enough in my opinion. You can go biking and walk your dogs here. It's laid back and comfortable.

The Caldwell Arts Council once again hosted the annual Sculpture competition on this site and it is perfect. The centralized lake location is perfect for a non vigorous walk or just bench sitting to watch the ducks and geese. There are restroom facilities. Unfortunately, the lovely and numerous Japanese Maple trees have been butchered In a way too aggressive pruning that destroyed their natural shape. One must hope that the new plantings beside the walkway will reeive sufficient watering to survive and thrive.

Yesteryears Antiques & Collectibles

When we go to an old building like this, one of the first things I do is ask about what it used to be. The man working here was very nice and really enjoyed telling us about it's history. The building is over 105 years old.

It's not a very big place but it had a lot of collectibles and we really enjoyed looking at things there. The first floor had some narrow aisles in along the sides but the store was so lovely inside (so much original architecture to look at) that it didn't even bother me.

As you circle the second floor you have a full view of the first floor. The third floor appeared to be more of an attic and the items up there looked more like flea market finds .... but not junk. We were there in August and the attic area was extremely hot so I rushed through it.

Caldwell Heritage Museum preserves the history of Caldwell County. From pre-Colonial days until the present, you will see the history through their exhibits. Largest display of arrow heads I have ever seen in one place. You will also see several special interest collections: medical, music, military, household furnishings, tools and toys. There is a lot of picture that help to tell the history of Caldwell County. Two levels of wonderful history. You can do a walk thru or stop and take in the information they are sharing. No charge but donations are welcome. Volunteer staff very friendly and a joy to visit with.

J.E. Broyhill Civic Center

Reviewed By rebjag - Morganton, North Carolina

I've been to several musical concerts there by well known artists and high school bands. The stage appears small, out of porportion, stage lighting not the best (likely from human control rather than equipment). Acoustics not exceptional. Not a good venue for taking photos unless you have very very good camera. Seats comfortable but outdated.
