Munthe’s Hildasholm is situated alongside Lake Siljan, just to the north of Leksand’s Church. The estate was built in 1910-11 by doctor and writer Axel Munthe, the creator of Villa San Michele on Capri. Walking into Hildasholm is like entering another world. Here one can have a close-hand look at the art and handicrafts, Swedish and foreign, collected and brought to Hildasholm during the first part of the 20th century. Hildasholm's gardens, planned and constructed by Hilda Munthe during the 1910's and 20's, offer the visitors of today both astounding beauty and pleasant surprises. A coffee/tea picnic basket from Hildas Garden Cafe can be brought along to your favourite spot of the park. Open Daily from June 9 to September 2.
Very informative even if you know the story of Munthe and Hilda, but also if you do not. We had a great guide (in Swedish) and even our 7-year old boy liked it.

Leksand Sommarland is one of the first "sommarland" in Sweden. The company was founded in 1984 and is today one of the most fun family park in Sweden. Most of the fun activities you can think of is available here and the park has the longest water slide in the world at 300 m. We also have one of Sweden's longest zipline at 300 m long. New for 2015 is three pieces of rope courses at 10 m height and two at 2 m height. We have also built a 9 hole disc golf park and received two new alpacas in the mini farm. Next to us is our lovely campsite which is one of Sweden's largest. If you stay with us you can take advantage of our discounted sommarland package. Welcome to us this summer!

We were lucky to stay close to Leksand for a few days. We stumbled upon this brand just by accident and became to love it very quickly. This factory store here has all the variations of their Knäckebröd. All prices are lower than in the stores. And if you really wanna safe money, then you should get some of their "broken" products that can't be sold in the stores (the flavour's all fine, they are just broken pieces). Besides Knäckebröd they sell some other swedish specialties as well. Don't miss out on the unusual but tasty Knäckebröd Pizza - outside at the food counter or as a frozen product. Good stuff! Besides the regular Knäckebröd you really should give the special ones a try. We loved the "Havssalt Frön" the most. Great with cheese or butter as well. It's a really popular place. And for good reason. Great products, good prices.
