A park within easy driving distance from Hendersonville that offers hiking, camping and fishing.
brief overnight camping at Lake Powhatan. Didn't get to explore much, but had solitude and a cozy campsite.

I will get you to beautiful private or remote public waterfalls away from the crowded tourist areas. No long or hard hikes on my normal tour but harder hikes are available. Ideal for seniors and families with children. Great for photography. I know the lighting at each waterfall. I've been to over 170 waterfalls in this area. Located 30 minutes from Asheville, NC and 5 minutes from Brevard, NC. I will meet you at a convenient location based on where you are staying or driving from.
My husband and I visited Asheville for the second time and brought our 15 year old son and our 75 year old father (my father-in-law). This time we wanted to do some adventuring. My husband and son found Craig on a google search. He truly...MoreThank you for the GREAT review. Enjoyed spending the day with you. As you know I will design a outing, whether easy or more challenging, based on what you are wanting.

The Vordach zipline is a great family experience. Dave, Vlad, Gabby & Clair are patient and caring and took their time to make sure we were safe and comfortable. The runs were fun especially the vertical tree walk, that had the aderdiline pumping. We would definitely do this again.
The price is reasonable for the time and number of runs you do $27.50 per person what a great deal.

Nestled in the absolutely beautiful western SC mountains is Lake Jocassee, part of Devils Lake State Park. A long ways from nowhere, but worth the scenic drive. The Lake tours are filled with information about the history of the lake, geology, flora and fauna of the lake area. You may even see a few waterfalls. Pontoon boats are used for the tours. They are comfortable and provide a nice group size to hear and learn about the area from very qualified nature "captains". Just note there is no bathroom on the boat, so be prepared. Several different kinds of tours are offered. I'm going on a moonlight tour next. Also note that they run tours a good part of the year, not just "tourist season".

We came here to hike the trail to rainbow falls and first went in the visitor center. While a modest center it was nice. Then drove on down to the trail head for Rainbow Falls which was the Grassy Ridge parking area. The trail was rated as strenuous and 1.5 miles long. However we did not find it to be very difficult, I am 62 and in okay shape. My GPS recorded the length to the falls at 1.66 miles. It starts out downhill and even though a great day weather wise was very uncrowded. A few spots where you had to step on strategically place rocks to avoid wet feet or in my case with waterproof hiking shoes, ankle high, just stomped through with no problem. The falls were well worth the hike and if you continue the trail after the Rainbow Falls you can reach Turtle Back Falls which are nice to view. My brother says in the summer they float off the falls in to the pool at the bottom. They also can be reached from the other direction from the highway leading to the state park. I hope to return to try the other waterfall trail they have.

Our gems are natural and only come from our mountains. We come out to the flume to identify the stones. We will custom wire wrap any stone you find. We also will cut, polish and set in gold or silver any stone. We can also do some jewelry repairs. We teach stone cutting and wire wrapping. We are open daily rain or shine, flume is partially covered. We have jewelry for sale all year. We also have buckets "to go" take it home and do it there. You never know what treasures you will find. The guided gold panning trips are now available. We also do guided gem mining trips where we find 'um, spend the day or half a day, we take all the equipment with us. There is gold in every creek and river here. And we are "plopped" right on US 64 in beautiful Lake Toxaway, we have parking available from cars to motor homes even school buses. This year we are making pottery again 14 years ago we were making pottery and selling it wholesale all over the US. And yes we are hand building hand warmer mugs. We are selling wholesale and retail. Groups welcome, ask Curly about our group discounts.
I rate this low only because of the high price for thier salted buckets which were disappointingly poor in quantity for the price ($20). However I would give 4 stars for the owners love of a good story and willingness to share his knowledge. He was also willing to display some of the jewelry he has and each piece has a story- well worth the stop.

Super fun hour. Holden, the man who helped us, was very generous with his time and expertise. We found some nice things in our ruby, sapphire, emerald bucket but I was most excited about the tiny fossil flowers I found. My daughter liked the sapphires the best:).

Stayed there for hours, enjoying the easily accessible falls. Can just walk right under them. That water is really cold even in the summertime. So photogenic. Interesting array of wildlife. Only about a 10-15 minute walk from the road. Getting out is hard because you have to pull out and cannot see quickly approaching oncoming traffic. Fortunately someone guided us out. Can get crowded, go earlier in the day.

You will find 3 different waterfalls in this location (French Broad Falls, Mill Shoals Falls, and Bird Rock Falls - the name was later changed to Cathedral Falls). You will know you are there when you see a beautiful rustic red dwelling that is the Living Waters Ministry.
There is very little off the road parking at the Ministry and it's not a big area so please, make sure your car is pulled completely off the road. The falls are on the Ministry's private property but the owners welcome visitors to come see the falls. Please respect their property and do not litter.
The French Broad Falls and the Mill Shoals Falls are directly behind the Ministry and the Bird Rock Falls (Cathedral Falls) is a short, easy 1/4 mile hike downstream. There had been a heavy rain the night before we were there so all three falls were really flowing. Try not to miss these falls. I know you will love them as much and we did.

A favorite spot for hikers and picnickers, this scenic area features the Whitewater River dropping more than 400 feet in a series of cascading falls.
Nine miles south of Sapphire on NC 281 is Whitewater Falls. There is a $2 per vehicle fee for parking at the lot, and picnic tables and rest rooms are located here. The Whitewater River, while etching its way through the Jocassee Gorge, provides spectators with an awe-inspiring cascade. With a drop of 411 feet, Whitewater Falls is the tallest cascade in the southeast. An easy ¼-mile handicap-accessible trail leads to the first observation point; a set of steps goes to a lower viewing deck. These two observation areas provide the only views of the falls; there are no trails that lead any closer.
