Gruyères Castle has stood proudly atop a verdant hill in the heart of Switzerland since the 13th century. Surrounded by the magnificent panorama of the Alpine foothills, the medieval fortress houses prestigious collections that bear witness to its long and rich history. The treasures to be found within its walls include the capes of the Order of the Golden Fleece and the intricate stained-glass windows dating from the Middle Ages; the frescoes commissioned by the bailiffs under the Ancien Régime; paintings by Jean-Baptiste Camille Corot and the troubadour decorations of the Salle des Chevaliers, created at Gruyères in the 19th century by a colony of passionate artists. From its ramparts to its French-style gardens, from the guard room to its romantic salons, Gruyères Castle takes you on an adventure through eight centuries of art, history and legends.
We loved the small town and the walk from the train stop to the castle. It has an authentic vibe to it and the surroundings are even better than the castle. If you came by train, the bus up the castle and back will be free for you.

In a Winter´s day we went to the Moleson, the most famous mountain in Gruyere. There was snow, but not enough to skiing. The Funiculaire was full of people who want to see the landscape from the high. It´s a marvelous sight, as the day was clear, we could see even the Montblanc, in the boundary with France.

Be aware that the last entrance to visit the museum is 45 minutes before the closing time - HR GIGER IS ONE OF THE MOST FAMOUS SWISS ARTISTS. He was awarded an « Oscar » in 1980 in Hollywood for the movie « Alien ». He was the designer of the Alien beast and different other biomechanical creatures. The artist was born in Coire in 1940. Giger has given to Gruyeres a different dimension, a wonderful attraction: two worlds completely opposed. One traditional and the other one fantastic. The visitor penetrates in the biomechanical, surrealistic and mind-blowing place. The museum is open since 1998. Most of its twenty rooms are reserved for Giger’s work: paintings, sculptures and furnitures. His private collection is shown on the third floor artist such as Coleman, Dado, E. Fuchs, Schwarz, Steve Leuba, etc. A bar completely designed by Giger built on the left hand side of the Museum is the last living master piece of the artist where the atmosphere and the sensation are incomparable.
After collect my first Giger print in 1992, I finally made it to Gruyeres and to the Museum in 2018. I was somewhat overwhelmed by the visit, and thoroughly enjoyed the exhibition. Several years ago, I was in Chur and found the Giger Bar almost by accident, and THAT was a huge moment for me too. While I would say the pieces here on display are more for fans than for the casual art-lover, the breadth of Giger's work is truly amazing. Most people will recognise the "Alien" work, but there's so much more here to see. If you do go to see the "Alien" pieces, don't forget to look up as you walk into the exhibition room or you might miss something quite thrilling and awesome.

The Musee gruerien of Bulle, Gruyere Region "Stories to share": Ever since 1917, the Musee gruerien has been examining and highlighting the cultural heritage of the Gruyere region. There are farmers' rooms, mountain cheese dairies, objects bearing witness to popular piety, everyday life and the pastoral cycle. Objects, costumes and documents reveal the richness of a traditional culture based on the farming of mountain pastures and trading of the famous Gruyere AOC cheese. Guided visits of the museum and the townwalk on demand. 150 square metres are given over to alternating presentations of the most beautiful and unique collections from the Museum's archives. A permanent exhibition of daguerrotypes by J.-Ph. Girault de Prangey. 350 square metres are given over to short-term topical and/or artistic exhibitions. A theme-circuit has been specially designed for children. It includes items that can be manipulated and various games that are directly linked to the topics in each section. Children can, for example, play a memory game comparing Bulle in 1912 to the 21st century town, build a woodshingle roof or use a magnetic board to make up their own >.

We hiked from Moléson-sur-Gruyeres through Plan Francey, Gros Plane and up the Tremetta route to the summit on a warm early summer day. We passed the ubiquitous cows with bells, high meadows full of wildflowers, small patches of snow, and also some places to refill our bottles with the best water you will ever taste. It took us about 4 1/2 hours or so with plenty of stops for photos. As you near the top you’ll be rewarded with jaw dropping scenery. The restaurant terrace at the top is great for enjoying the views with a well-earned craft beer. Then you can ride the funicular and teams back down to where you started. Some folks also do the opposite, trams up and walking down, but I prefer to earn my views. :-) it’s a bit convoluted to get to using public transportation from Montreux— allow at least 90 minutes to 2 hours— so start early so you aren’t rushed. The bus and train up are also enjoyable.

What a wonderful walk we had down the Gorges. Just after visiting the chocolate factory this made for an active 3 hours as we walked the length of the gorge. In the summer it is cool and there are some stunning cliffs to imagine climbing ( you can even see the climbing bolts on some of the rock faces) At the end of the leg out you should climb up from the hydroelectric dam to Chez Boudji for the best macaroni in the region. This walk is the sort of walk you can enjoy in every season to see how the scenery changes. No 1 recommendation in the region.

The goal of our information center about energy is to provide you with a fun and educational experience. Our guides encourage discussion while tailoring their approach depending on your knowledge level and interests. As part of the tour, you will safely enter a hydroelectric power plant in operation and experience a unique demonstration of very high voltage effects (250,000 volts).
I visited Eletrobroc with my family (a group of 8) ranging between ages 27 and 80 years old. It is without a doubt the most interesting guided tour I have been on, we wish we could have stayed a lot longer. All of the rooms and exhibits we visited were very interactive, thought provoking, interesting... we left wanting to know more about all of them! We didn't have to pay, just book in advance (we managed to book in the morning and get a tour by the afternoon). Our guide, Isabel, was fantastic. She was informative, friendly, and seemed interested in all of us in the group. At the end of the tour we ended up staying for another hour just to talk to her and share stories about our lives. We later found out that she had come in specially to give us the tour (because we were an English speaking group). They had phoned her at 11am and she was at the venue and ready for us by 1:30pm. What an incredible lady with a fantastic story. She took time out of her own day to make sure we felt welcomed and well informed throughout the day. She spent extra time answering all of our questions and was really enthusiastic about everything, she definitely made the tour! Huge thanks to you Isabel, you are amazing. We didn't know what the custom was to tip in Switzerland, but we left a tip anyway, she absolutely deserved it! Electrobroc is great for all ages. I would have loved it as a kid, but found it even more interesting as an adult now I understand a bit more about how energy and renewables work. We will go back and visit next time we are in the area!
