Whistling Straits Golf Course - Straits and Irish

Beautiful, well-tended course soon to be one of the best championship golf courses in the world.

Reviewed By SPK1951 - Montgomery, Texas

Annual Golf Group trip went to Kohler this year, played the Straits Course the second day. WOW. We were lucky with a perfectly flat Lake Michigan, and not a cloud in the sky; I cannot imagine anyone had better conditions than we did that day. Fabulous.
As to the golf, a tough course, well deserving of its reputation. Caddies were very good, it is a wonderful place to walk - allows one to both enjoy the scenery a bit more, and gives time to recover from the last shot before having to swing the club again. The course provides tee recommendations based on handicap and they were accurate - everyone in our group seemed to feel the tees they used were right for them. This is a course to visit, and go back to, and we will.

I stopped overnight in Sheboygan primarily to visit the Bookworm Gardens & was not disappointed. Even for an adult without children, this place is wonderful. Around every corner is another surprise! The gazebo is a highlight, as is the Little House cabin (which unfortunately was under construction during my visit). Any parents with littles must go here! It’s such a great place for them to explore literature, music, & the beautiful Wisconsin woods.

Jack's course designs are among the best golf has to offer and this course is no different. The design and layout are beautiful and challenging; make sure you play the tees appropriate to your skill level. The tee boxes and greens are elevated; the fairways are rolling with a lot of undulation; there are many bunkers and water comes into play on several holes.

The price is reasonable, the course is in good condition, the staff is very friendly.

Who knew there is so much to know about the history of plumbing fixtures? It was actually quite interesting to learn about the Kohler brothers and the birth and growth of their company. The variety of sinks , toilets, and bathtubs available was almost mind-boggling. The history of the planned community is also fascinating. Did not get to take the factory tour, but I imagine that would be a great experience.

The transporter must have transported me to Chicago or New York. I don't think I'm in Wisconsin anymore. In my opinion it would be hard pressed to find a museum with this quality exhibits anywhere. Even the restrooms are museum pieces. The artisan restaurant inside the museum is a great place for lunch or a snack. Entry to the museum is free but please, support the foundation with a donation.

Kohler Waters Spa

Be advised of major construction and spa renovation going on at Kohler until June 2018. Perhaps my experience would have been different at a different time, but nevertheless, I was told that the construction would not be disruptive or affect my spa visit. This was not the case. The facility is very nice, but alas, I was not able to truly enjoy any of it due to all of the sawing, drilling, and pounding going on. This was especially evident on the 4th floor whirlpool "relaxation" area and during my massage. I was not able to relax or zone out due to the horrific noise. It was impossible. Listen, if you want to stay open during construction, fine, but be honest about the noise and don't charge people full price for your services! Did I mention, I paid full price? As a frequent spa goer, my very best spa experience in the Midwest is still Spa Shiki in Missouri. My overall best spa visit in North America, was Pillar and Post 100 Fountain Spa, Niagara on the Lake. Sorry, Kohler, my experience was just average at best. Very disappointing.

Even this late in the year the course was in awesome shape. I played the meows/valley course. Must have hit it just right as I was able to play 18 in under 2-1/2 hours. Even if it does take longer during the year this is just one of all their courses that you must play.

Clean, reasonably priced, easy access and fun things for everyone. They were wonderfully accommodating to my 91 year old mother and her caregiver. Easy access and handicapped parking. Her great grandchildren came for the day and played in the waterpark too. We all had so much fun. Good food. Great room service. Close to downtown, cute restaurants and shops inside and out and right on Lake Michigan.

Staff is very friendly, accommodating, and knowledgeable about the venue, products, and options for both dining and tasting. Have experienced generous tasting along with help choosing the best option to join for my situation. Both dinner experiences have been excellent and well attended by staff and guests. Recommend highly for a pleasant outing.
