August 21, 2017 Madelene Haan

Ko Olina Resort is a 642-acre (2.60 km) master-planned vacation and residential community on the leeward coast of Oahu, 17 miles (27 km) northwest of Honolulu. Ko Olina has 2 miles (3.2 km) of coastal frontage and includes three natural and four man-made lagoons with white-sand beaches. It is home to four hotel and vacation-club resorts: Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa; the Ihilani Resort & Spa, Marriott's Ko Olina Beach Club, and The Four Seasons at Ko Olina, as well as several resort condominiums and villa homes. Previously, the JW Marriott at Ko Olina occupied The Four Seasons property. An Atlantis Resort, similar to Atlantis Dubai, is currently being designed as an international destination for millennial travelers. The property will be adjacent to the condominiums located on lagoon three.

Mark collected us right on time and made us feel comfortable from the start. After a chat about what we wanted to see, he made sure we had plenty of time at each stop, took us to all the best food and dessert stops, beaches and famous places, and stopped at places well off the map. We finished up with some shopping and Mark had us back at our hotel 12 hrs after he picked us up. Its just a great day, that we would recommend to anyone.

Great experience with this crew. Very good pre-arrival communication with clear instructions, quick response to questions, easy to follow maps, and day-before follow through. Weather started out lousy, and their other clients cancelled, but we were nearing the end of our visit and could not reschedule. The Reeled In team called to ask what we wanted to do. They had no problem meeting us for our rainy day and my 20 year old grandson enjoyed his private lesson with Russ. Went through on-land practice, and then into the water. My grandson was up and surfing 10 minutes after they entered the water. Russ was very patient with my grandson, made him feel comfortable. 45 minutes into the lesson, my grandson was doing pivot jumps on his board. They provided a nice cloth armchair and umbrella for me to watch from the shore. Nice beach with reasonable waves. Grandson and I felt safe. Only regret is that the weather was too poor for their professional photography. Be sure to leave this team a nice tip, they are well worth it. I highly recommend this well prepared, professional Reeled In Surf team.

Mana Cruises

Explore Hawaii by yacht with Mana Cruises. "Charter-Style" day and sunset cruises to highlight your trip to the islands! Enjoy a hosted bar, hosted menu, limited passenger count and pure Hawaiian hospitality - all inclusive.

Our sunset cruise beat our already-high expectations. Jacob & Kei made sure the two couples aboard were always comfortable and getting the most out of the experience. Lying on the "trampoline" at the bow, we had a spectacular view of the pod of spinner dolphins escorting us, and with the company's limiting the boat to 6 passengers, there was no crush of people vying for position to see and hear them. Jacob also altered the cruise a bit after someone spotted a whale spout in the distance; we lost track of it, but he did try to get us closer which was appreciated.

Cocktails and food onboard were great--we didn't need a full dinner afterward. Since we were staying at a resort in Ko Olina, we were able to walk back from the marina after the cruise was over and take in another 20 minutes of a beautiful evening along the beachside walkway. We are so very glad we did this cruise, and feel that paying a bit more for a more-personalized, non-crowded experience was well worth it.

These areas are great for swimming. The area is protected by some rock structures to break the waves so it is calm for swimming next to the resorts. Great areas for children.

White Plains Beach

Reviewed By John S - Kapolei, Hawaii

This is a beginner surfing beach. There are surfboard rentals available. The long sand beach is good for sunbathing. On occasion a Hawaiian Monk Seal will come to shore to sun-bathe. If that happens caution tape is in place to keep people from approaching them too closely.
This area used to be a military recreation area and still does have beach houses for Military and Dept. of Defense personnel on the far west shore of the beach. The bathroom, picnic area, stage, and former restaurant are part of this beach area that was maintained by the military until the Barber's Point Military Airbase was turned over to the State of Hawaii..
If you're new to Hawaii, your best bet is to use GPS. Main Directions start with an exit from the H-1 Freeway at Makakilo Drive. Do NOT go uphill! Go toward the beach using Ft. Barrett Road, turn left on Franklin D. Roosevelt, turn right on Coral Sea Rd. past the old landing strip. Turn left on Tripoli Road. Turn right on Essex Rd. and it will loop into the beach parking lot.
Lifeguards are present. This rather remote area is safe with police patrols checking the parking area on a regular basis. The shallow reef on lower tides are often waist deep for long stretches. The surf rolls gently with long reforms of the peaks.
The downside of this beach is that the surf is often blown out by side on-shore winds. Picnics and barbecues are suggested because of the lack of restaurant facilities.
Get ready for a unique beach day!

We purchased tickets in advance and sat in the beautifully restored cozy parlor car reserved seating area. We had a wonderful private guide who shared so much of the history of the railroad and the surrounding areas. We went on the Sunday train that scheduled a stop at an ice cream shop. The parlor car seats were very comfortable and we could see everything through the large windows on both sides of the train. The scenery was just beautiful through the towns to the beach which was gorgeous. Our guide had so many great stories to share. Truly a fun experience.

Kahe Point Beach Park

We have come out snorkeling here for years. Sometimes the surf at the entry beach is quite high and can pound a novice snorkeler pretty hard. Sometimes the swim out to the electric plant water discharge area can be a lot farther than it looks. Sometimes people can be stupid when snorkeling, and not pay attention to the current created by the water discharge, and get swept quite far out and not be able to swim out of the current. But if one manages to deal with all those potential troubles, the snorkeling is amazing. It is very much like snorkeling in the aquarium of your local sealife park. However, if you are not fit, don't even think about it, unless on one of those awful people laden snorkel boats. Almost lost one of the elderly aunties out there, but she was saved by a local fisherman. The kids still go regularly without any problems.
