We've heard Toronto described as "New York City run by the Swiss," and it's true—you can find world-class theater, shopping and restaurants here, but the sidewalks are clean and the people are friendly. The best place to start is literally at the top—the CN Tower, the tallest freestanding structure in the Western Hemisphere.

Montgomery's Inn is a museum that has been a Toronto landmark for over 180 years. Surrounded by a rapidly expanding metropolis, it continues to provide visual evidence of early 19th-century hospitality. Built in 1830 by Thomas and Margaret Montgomery, the Inn was a place where locals gathered to exchange news, views, as well as a good meal. Exhausted travelers were also offered a bed for the night. City of Toronto Historic Sites work collectively as 10 historic museums including: Colborne Lodge, Fort York National Historic Site, Gibson House Museum, Mackenzie House, Montgomery's Inn, Scarborough Museum, Spadina Museum, Todmorden Mills Heritage Site, York Museum and Zion Schoolhouse.

My friend and I stayed at the Old Mill overnight and had spa treatments booked for the next day. I had a Swedish massage with Krystina (sp?) and then a Rosemary Mint Pedicure and Lavender Manicure with Agnes. The atmosphere is wonderfully relaxing and the staff friendly/welcoming. Agnes told me she loved working at the Old Mill, that staff were treated with respect. My friend did the Hot Stone Massage and the French Pear & Chocolate Dip, and told me she loved everything (she also apparently fell asleep during one of the treatments; she was that relaxed!). After our treatments, we did the Afternoon Tea. Beautifully presented and delicious! The chef came out afterward - so sweet and friendly. I was also impressed that a portion of the proceeds from Old Mill Toronto's Afternoon Tea is annually donated to the Women's Habitat charity. Our rooms (I was in 502, my friend in 501) were beautifully appointed with a gorgeous view, much bigger than we expected. Only a few comments re: possible small improvements including improving the in-room audio system (cassette tape/CD player but no in-room tapes or CDs, outdated iHome that only accommodates older devices) and making sure the Where magazine is up-to-date - my room's issue were all for events that had already passed. I also notice that my curtain was starting to wear through a bit, with tiny holes that let sunlight through in the morning. Both my friend and I had a wonderful and relaxing time, and we hope to come back again sometime.
