Dvigrad

How great is was to be here by ourselves on a beautiful fall morning. Wonderful atmosphere, breathtaking views, no admission to pay, no souvenir stands. Also no refreshments or restrooms, but you can't go far in Istria without finding a friendly konoba, so that is not a problem. In good weather when it's warm, this could be a nice picnic spot (but remember, if you brought it with you, you can take whatever is left of the picnic with you!).
The narrow, twisting road up to the ruins is more like a track than a road and encountering another vehicle going the other way could be a problem. I shudder to imagine what two mega tour buses would do in that situation. So I hope they will not improve and widen the road. And on the site itself, there are lots of places that demand sturdy shoes and a degree of surefootedness, so that lacking those, better go somewhere else, unless you want to sustain an injury. And there are steep drops that children (or careless adults) could fall off of.
With all that in mind, make an informed decision as to whether you want to risk the perils that a visit here could entail. Don't say you weren't warned!

Latus Dairy

A small family firm located at the heart of Istria, only a kilometre from the main Pula - Pazin road surrounded by pastures, at the hill above the village of Orbanići has been producing high quality dairy products based on its own cows' milk since the end of the last century and other farmers' milk from all over Istria for the last ten years. Following the trends in the dairy production the dairy has been investing a great deal in its development and growth, although the base remains constantly the same, that is, tradition, nature and family.

I explored Istrian inland with my friends and we visited Dairy Latus since all of us are cheese lovers. In addition to tasting delicious yoghurt and cheese, we also learned about the history of the region, local customs, cheese production and the life on the farm. Olivera was a great host who told us those stories in a very relaxed and friendly atmosphere. They even gave us a short tour of the farm, and we saw cows happily grazing on the nearby field. Since this is a place in the heart of Istria - just 20 minutes away by car from any major town there (Rovinj, Pula...), I would definitely recommend a visit to this unique place. In addition to tasting different types of delicious cheese (an award winning cheese Veli Jože is a must), you will taste some great Istrian wines too so the eperience is complete. Don't go home before you buy the cheese you liked the most in their shop downstairs :-)

Exploring the interior of Istra, we found the Zminj Information Center and the woman referred us to Festinsko Kraljevstvo for a cave experience. This is a family-owned Enterprise with good guide who spoke English well. Tour is about a 1/2 hour and reasonably priced. Refreshments available for purchase.

We had looked forward to visiting with our 3 kids, aged 11, 11 and 13.
And wauuuw - what a nice place. What an incredibly nice place.
Seconds after we arrived, we were greeted by Nigel and he introduced the park.
And 15 minutes later, we were on the training area of the park, being teached about security and how to move around in a very safe way.
I can assure you this - there is something for all ages / braveness - the security is top notch, and minutes after my 11 years old was stuck 10 meters up, an instructor was up there helping him.
We had soooo much fun in that park. The kids absolutely was challenged to the max, and it was cool to see how the park made them behave responsibly - but also to see them "grow" to the challenges ...
They have some serious ziplines - I believe the longest was 115 meters over a huge span ....
There are an area with shade to relax and have a cold one - around the park you also have shady trees, so you can follow your kids without getting a sun stroke :-)
Best part in the end, is that you actually just pay for what areas / things you try.
So me bailing out after trying the 2 meters training area, only costed me 50 kuna.
We had a blast there and recommend this to anyone seeking some adrenalin for a few hours.

Some call it business; we call it winemaking, the adventure in which we have dared to put our hearts on top of all the rules and regulations. Over and over again, for more then fifteen years now.

Lovely wine, lovely people, great setting. Brilliant rainy day activity. Sipping a delicious glass of their white wine which I brought home at £7 a bottle as I type. Superb hosting skills there and great wine for very very reasonably prices. Definitely worth seeking out! Cannot imagine how you could not have a good time there

Zip Line Pazinska jama

ZipLine is an adventurous flight using cables and pulleys. Our ZipLine is located above the famous Pazin cave. Zip Line Pazin Cave consists of four lines. Visitors start their adventure from the gorge below the Hotel Lovac. The first two lines are 80 meters long each one. The third is 220 meters long and reaches a speed of 40 km/h, leading to the courtyard of House for writers. The fourth line is a longest 280 meters, and also fastest 50 km/h. As a rule, it is the favorite as it allows you to enjoy the view of the cave and the famous Castle above it. This line ends above the small cave Babina kuca, on the lookout, which is named after the famous French writer Jules Verne, who in his novel Mathias Sandorf (1885.) wrote about Pazin Cave and the Castle. By trail on the cliffs of Pazin Cave, and in less than five minutes, we come back to the place where it starts. Suitable for children and adults.

What a gorge! What an experience! Did this with my four children, 20, 18 and 13. Arrived and there were a couple of groups in front so we had to wait about 50 minutes but that was fine, we sat and watched them go. You can do the first two short lines or all four lines and in high season they do a huge swing from the bridge but this was not open when we went.
Got properly harnessed up, top and bottom because lots of people like tipping themselves upside down and spinning in their harnesses when zip lining. Yikes!
The first two lines are short and sharp the next two, well, you literally head off over nothing. My children just went, me, I really hesitated but thanks to the help and encouragement of the lovely Anna, I was able to go.
Everything felt super safe and the staff were full of enthusiasm and fun.

I had an oil shop visit and olive groove tour here with a group of 13 Americans. We loved the surroundings, and all products we tried, including several varieties of oil, accompanied with delicious snacks, local wine and chocolate. Paul took us on the tour through Sta. Margherita groove. It was professional and interesting, discovering many facts about olives and all the process and hard work that stays behind the perfect drop of oil. I would suggest to everyone interesting in delicious oil to make also the groove tour, as this brings you to a new level of experience, realizing how personal this is, every olive has been hand-picked and taken care of on the top level possible!
