Together with 25 Anglo-Thai Society members, my wife and myself visited the impressive Sambor Prei Kuk - a UNESCO World Heritage Site that predates the far better known Angkor Wat by several centuries. The site is such a large one that - depending on the time available - it’s important to target certain segments of the three main Temple groupings to get the optimum benefit. This is exactly what we did with each segment having something different to offer. It proved a most enjoyable and educational visit - one enhanced by the fact that - besides the local couple who were having their wedding photos taken behind one of the Temples - we were virtually only visitors on the whole site!

Comming by Tuk Tuk from Kampong Thom we first visited the Santuk Silk Farm. A must. From there we went to Phnom Santuk. Reaching the Stairs to to the Buddhas we had motorcycle driver forcing US to be lifted up, thankfully we denied friensly as always and took the stairs. 809 in total. It was a calm late afternoon so we had the stairs neatly for our own only to be shared with the monkeys. They seem to be nice but be carefull and do not feed them. At the top we enjoyed the lovely view and all the Buddhas and as we were nearly alone we really could enjoy it.

we make it a point to see these bats as they are huge and will fly off from a few huge trees along the Stung Sen river about 500 m from the main highway . about 7 pm will be a good time time to head to the river front . one can watch it on the near bank for a close up view or the far bank to see a panorama view of the river and the bats .
