This museum has a unique series of life size paintings of all Royals of the House of Orange on display, including the present Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands. Starting with William of Orange in the 16th century you can follow Princes, Kings and Queens through the ages. Furthermore the museum has an interesting, well set up exhibition on the relation of the Dutch with water and changing Exhibitions from contemporary artists. You can also see a beautiful old court room with magnificient details (see picture). The museum lies in the center of the old part of Kampen, close to the bridge over the IJssel. River and just 15km (10 mile) or a 10 minute train ride from main town Zwolle. All-in-all well worth the trip.

Kampen was formerly known for her cigars. In the Voorstraat were several factories, including De Olifant. Nowadays De Olifant can still be found on this location, the only remaining cigar factory. De Olifant combines craftsmanship with modern techniques and produces cigars for several countries. Would you like to see our factory? That's possible!
Even if u do not smoke cigars, this is a must see place in Kampen. It's a shop with the factory behind it that still produces a impressive amount of cigars. Some are hand rolled, others are made by human operated machines. They learn u a lot about tobacco leaves and they have a smoke room where u can smoke your cigars.

Excellent shop for coffee, tea or sigars... The Eenhoorn is a long time established company in Kampen with a rich history. You can hop by for an excellent coffee & tea or buy your own ingredients in the shop next to the bar. Highly skilled staff and nice atmosphere.
Without a doubt the best coffee place in Kampen!

The small city Kampen hosts three mediëval gates, this one the Cellebroederspoort was named after a nearby monastry and replaced to its current location in 1465. It is wonderfully located in a park that surrounds a part of Kampen and has two towers and nice ornaments. Really worth a visit, not far away from the center. Unfortunately it's only opened on Monument Day.

As an intermediate escapist, not a lot of escape rooms can live up to my standards anymore. I personally think that it is still possible to present an escape room with uncommon puzzles in unique locations. And Escaperoom Kampen fulfilled these wishes.
Being set in an old tower, you're welcomed by a monk who is immediately in his role for the escape room. The puzzles are difficult enough to keep you busy. We've played the game in the evening during a storm, which made the location even more unique: some places in the tower are set with an open windowbar, so the wind is howling inside the tower (we had to play with our coats on though). Thumbs up!
Note that this tower is not suitable for those with claustrophobia, and not suitable for the handicapable. It requires some fitness to use the very small winding stairs, and you often have to go up and down. High heels not recommended either.
Great adventure, being rewarded with a great view once you've reached the top of the tower.
And ofcourse we've managed to beat the clock :)

The finest beers without a doubt - served with enthusiasm. And what a great selection of beers on tap. Not to be missed - and cracking decor too. Loved it.

We first saw the church from the bus taking us from Zwolle to Kampen. The train connection is under repair. It's absolutely huge, standing high (223 meters) above the very flat Dutch country side. The church can seat 1200 persons. The organ reportedly has 3000 pipes. Regretfully, we could not get in; we were just too early and then ran out of time. So we have to come back! For early arrivals, the church opens at 13.00. It's a church, so no cash or credit cards necessary. No passports or ID are required either. Not sure it is suitable for small children. Depends on family/children. Hendrick Avercamp (famous 17th century Dutch painter of winter landscapes) is burried there.
