On a whim, considering a little birthday wish my daughter had been hoping for, we called LaJoie. I didnt even leave a message, bc I figured there was no way we could get a same-day reservation. A lovely woman called me right back and said, I think we can squeeze you in. Within a few hours, we were hopping onto the backs of the sweetest horses, led by an even more fantastic guide (Hayley) and just overall had a once in a lifetime (for us city folks anyway) experience. My daughter was beside herself with happiness and we all felt as if we all had the most special vacation memory by riding horses peacefully through the Vermont woods for an hour. We saw some deer and wild turkeys to round out the animal experience. The cool all woman team running Lajoie are very professional and we would go back in a heartbeat. I highly recommend a ride at LaJoie.

We went there because it had great reviews and was conveniently located right next to Smuggler's Notch. The store was super clean and well organized. Price was very reasonable compare to Smuggler's ($32 each day for ski and pole, cheaper for multi days). Equipment was well maintained and staff were very helpful and super efficient. Store stayed late so we had ample time to return rental after lift closed. We are quite satisfied with the experience and will definitely return again.

Smugglers' Notch Distillery® is a father/son partnership in Jeffersonville, Vermont. The distillery was founded in 2006 at the foot of the famed Smugglers' Notch, site of many a clandestine bootlegger's run through this rugged Vermont mountain pass. The smuggling route was actually first used during the 1800s to move goods during the trade embargo and then again in the 1920s to move liquor during prohibition. Today this enchanting area provides outdoor enthusiasts with a boulder-laden curved mountain road and caves to explore. Smugglers' Notch Distillery® provides Carefully crafted, award-winning spirits. Using the finest ingredients blended with pristine Vermont spring water, we make, barrel age, blend, and hand-bottle remarkably distinctive, spirits one small batch at a time.
Smugglers’ Notch Distillery sells THE BEST alcohol I have ever tasted. The vodka is smooth, the whiskey is, too. They do a tasting for $5. Well worth it.
