Attean pond is a delightful, albeit shallow pond that truly captures the raw beauty of the upper Maine wilderness. Because it's rather shallow, it's best to explore via kayak, sup, canoe, or small skiff. The tradeoff is that you are not inundated with loud motorcraft. Folk who know the lake well could definitely get away with a larger boat such as a pontoon especially as you pass the narrows. There are a couple day trips that could be fun. Take Attean Pond Road to the end, where there is ample parking a doc and a boat launch ramp. there is a beach and hike up Sally Mountain and if you take your craft through the narrows and go all the way to the end of the pond there is a 1 mile hike to Holeb Pond. What makes Attean so great is that it's not build up. There is a small island with cabins but that's about it, there are no lake front mansions or loud speed boats disrupting the quiet. Although we missed seeing a moose, I don't see how you couldn't see one in the morning or at dusk.

This is an amazing place to stop and take in the views. Read all the boards so much information. Highly recommend this to everyone as a must see in Maine

We drove up to the sugar house, right through the woods where so many trees were being tapped. The Sawyers were very welcoming; they filled our gallon jugs with freshly made syrup (the jugs were still warm when we arrived home three house later) and gave us an informative tour. We have gone to MaineMaple Sunday events often over the years at various sugar houses. This was the best! Kurt and his father are knowledgeable and enthusiastic and their syrup is excellent. After showing us the equipment and explaining the intricacies of it all, they served us syrup samples, fresh from the evaporator. Awesome. A wonderful experience.
