In early June, the lovely Itako Riverside Iris Park in Itako, Ibaraki sees about 1 million irises bloom in 500 varieties. To celebrate, the Suigo Itako Iris Festival has been held from late May to late June every year since 1952. During the festival, a variety of events unique to Itako are held, such as the Yomeiri-Bune ("Bride on a Boat"), mentioned in the 1960 hit song "Itako Hanayome-san," and the traditional Ayame Dance (Dance of the Irises). The festival also features the Ro-bune rowboats, used as transportation since ancient times, providing plenty of opportunities to sightsee along the Mae River.

This fireworks display is held every summer in the city of Itako, renowned for its beautiful riverside location. At a specially constructed venue in Suigo Hokusai Park, around 3,500 fireworks light up the night sky, including star mines and flower garden displays. The impressive display of star mines set on the surface of the water are a must-see. Suigo Hokusai Park is a riverside park that stretches 1 kilometer along the banks of the Hitachi Tone River, and visitors can enjoying watching the fireworks launched from the water at close range. There are also many food carts set up on the day of the fireworks display. Plans that allow visitors to enjoy a meal while watching the fireworks from the deck of a pleasure boat have been gaining in popularity.
