Make sure you go ready to eat great typical food in a relax environment. There are plenty of good places to stop and enjoy the great Mountains. During holidays the traffic can get very heavy in the afternoon.

Although the general convention is to be cautious wherever you go in Colombia (and that would appear to Ibague as well), the atmosphere around the Plaza de Bolivar was somewhat active and pleasant. There was a beautiful church, at which we briefly observed services. There were also some nice restaurants, coffee shops and stores around the park's perimter. We had ice cream and obleas at a small place with chairs outside. You'll have a few beggars and vendors, but overall nicely put together.

The city and department are more famous for music than for visual arts but the museum makes the best possible case for Tolima's art from the nineteenth century through the present. There are 3 permanent Exhibitions and visiting ones which are usually interesting. The museum's role in the community is frankly a lot more important than its role as a tourist draw but it is worth seeing if you want to get the artistic pulse of the city and beyond.

This is a nice place to visit for a break from the traffic and city noise. There is a fee of about $5 usd and walks are primarily guided by botany or University students that have been trained to guide the public and provide information as you walk.
There are 3 Lookouts and the distance varies depending on how many you visit. You can go to the first one and it is about 1 hour on a relatively good paved trail that is not too steep. If you go to the second it really takes about 2.5 hours round trip and there are some stretches where the hike is somewhat steep. The third lookout is pretty far and it is about 5 miles round trip. Most people go to the first or second lookout and actually the trail to the third one was closed when we were there due to small landslides.
The guide provides lots of information about the plants you see as you walk. I was told that there are bilingual guides although I suspect that it may be best to call ahead and request one.
The views from the Lookouts are very nice and you can see the city and surrounding Mountains.
We spent 2.5 hours and in spite of the sweat and the steep climbs and descends in places we felt it was a worthwhile experience.
Be sure to get the nice brochure they have at the entrance, it is free. I would return if I visit Ibague again.
The university has a botanic garden as well, but although it is nice, it is very small.

Living Col organized a tour to Cartagena for members of a conference I was attending in Ibague.
The tour was amazing! It included airtickets and hotel, airport pick-up with nice cars, a walking tour of the old city, a sunset sail in the Cartagena bay (with music and drinks) and a bus sightseeing tour.
Licing Col were very professional and friendly in their arrangement and I felt safe and relaxed during the whole trip.
Highly recommended!

I just passed by but it is located kind of south of the downtown. you can see many trees and green enviroments around it. too many bikes around the place. hard and difficult to give a walk.
