Watched Japan v Wales in first Test of this summer series, after traveling by train from central Osaka which took an age it was great to get to the ground which is open on three sides with just the one covered stand. The welcome and atmosphere was fantastic and whilst the temperatures were in the high 20's low 30's the fun from the crowd flowed throughout the game. A great time for our first rugby game in Japan.

I took the Kintetsu Nara train line that takes you right in front of the temple. If you are coming from Osaka as soon as you get off the train there is a tunnel that leads you under the tracks to the other side of the station. Which takes you right in front of the temple stairs.. A young lady showed me the way. This was my first temple visit so I did not have any expectation. Very relaxing atmosphere...very green. Just behind the temple are hiking trails. The gift shop sales staff speaks English which was very nice for me that is :). And of course there are vending machines on the street just before entering to get water and etc. I have no idea about the history, I went to look, take pictures, relax on a summer hot day in Hagishiosaka and hike a little. Enjoy!

How to insert a memorial and museum honoring the life and career of a prolific modern author into a densely populated suburban Osaka neighborhood without overwhelming the site or the neighborhood? The architect, Tadao Ando, has succeeded quite nicely here. His signature glass and concrete memorial building fits seamlessly into the 'garden' area surrounding the writer's comfortable 'modern' home/studio. While the author's home itself is not open to visitors, a view of his workroom is seen through its windows opening onto the garden. The separate Ando building manages to contain a symbolic 30 foot high bookcase displaying the author's 20,000+ volume library, a small collection of memorabilia, an auditorium. a small gift shop and tea-and-sweet cafe area. As the author's works - over 100 titles - are intensely historical and Japanese, very few have been available in translation. Accordingly, the museum contents are also almost exclusively Japanese. The site is a ten minute walk south of the the Kintetsu Nara line station, Yaenosato, in eastern Osaka. A few signs have been painted on the sidewalks nearby indicating how to reach the museum/memorial. Local taxis make the trip in minutes.

This observation deck is free to go to. We went on a Sunday and had a little problem finding the entrance as most of the entrances were closed. We had to go down to a lower level (down stairs) on the outside of the building in order to find an open door. There is one elevator to go to for the South Observation deck and a different elevator for the North Observation deck. On the North Observation Deck there was an English translator which was able to point out some of the buildings we were seeing. There was also art pieces which were very interesting to see and read about. Much less crowded than the Tokyo Skytree that we saw the day before. The Tokyo Skytree is mostly alone as the sole large building in its location so you see smaller buildings around it offering a wider view. The Metropolitan building is among several larger buildings which makes it harder to see off in the distance. But some views are better than others. If I had to choose again as to which to go to I would choose the Metropolitan gov. building over the skytree.
