The Woodman

Reviewed By philhL9031VH

Well, what can you say? Lockdown has provided the Craigs (Landlords) with the chance to spruce the place up. Tom & Vikki have achieved a minor miracle with the loos! Blimey, like going into a Marriott hotel bog.... mind you, I kinda miss the old intimacy it had before...... and the smell. Still the best pub in Herts, hands down, despite the new tartan curtains. Beer is outstandingly good quality and always a good choice of Inde real ales, along with a cider or two. Oh, and the car park is less Himalayan. As they say, all things must change but, thank goodness, only for the better at this gem of a treasured hostelry. Well done guys :-)

Nast Hyde Halt

Reviewed By therichastill - Stevenage, United Kingdom

Nast Hyde Halt is just on the edge of Hatfield. If you walk along the Alban Way from Hatfield Galleria it will only take you about 15 minutes to reach it. The station has been beautifully restored and the platform is well presented with the station sign and hedges. There is also a tiny piece of railway track to remind you that trains used to run along this route. There are lots of signs and posters to check out at the station and in the area. Watch out for ghost trains! Hats off to Mike who has done an AMAZING job of looking after the station.

Mill Green Museum and Mill

Mill Green Museum and Mill, in the tiny village of Mill Green between Welwyn Garden City and Hatfield, is a little gem with loads to offer for a fun day out. You can explore the fascinating 300 year old water mill, restored to full working order. Visit the local history museum in the old mill house, bring a picnic or have a tasty cream tea on summer Sunday afternoons, from Easter to September. We are open all year round, Tuesday-Sunday plus bank holidays. We warmly welcome families and groups. There's always something new to see as we change exhibitions regularly. Every school holiday there's lots of things for children to do. We also have a lively events and activities programme.

At £2 each to get in its not expensive. Nice small displays of local history. Guides very helpful. Mill itself is very interesting for adults and kids. There was a miller and his assistant - both very happy to explain the workings of the mill and local history. It only needs any hour or two* to visit but is very interesting and educational. Take the time to talk to the guides and millers - its worth it. Tea shop was not open when we were there - perhaps its only open in peak season? *There were additional (paid) activities for kids which ours chose not to do.

Lovely historical Royal Palace with stunning gardens! It was the childhood home of Queen Elizabeth I and her favourite residence - easy to see why. Great to visit during spring/summer to chill out with friends & family.

What a great find just opposite the Galleria. A modern clean and interesting bar / restaurant. Food was delicious and service fantastic. Wherever possible I start my visit to a new town at Wetherspoons. You know exactly what you’re going to get for breakfast and the history and photographs in the information panels are interesting and really well presented. 10/10 for friendly welcoming staff. If you can grab one of the three booths made out of jumbo jet engine cowlings even better
