Much better experience than expected. The welcome process and entertainment is worth making this village a stop. Would be good to blend this village in with some other small normal villages in the area. Small entrance fee is with the rice wine welcome, entertainment and photo experience.

This is a good tribal village if you want to know more about the Dong minority tribe. At 10.00 am there is a short welcome performance at the village entrance gate. We put up a night at this tribal village and parked our car just outside the Homestay unit. They do charge an entrance fee to the village but free if you are above 60 years and during low season free for Chinese nationals from Shanghai. Interesting to see the authentic Dong village where the buildings are still well preserved and could see the people still use the stream water to wash. There is also a tribal performance for about 45 minutes at the centre square stage in the village at 7.00pm donning their cultural costume performing about their way of life, marriage custom and a Dong tribal version of Romeo and Juliet. Walk by the riverside to see the original house design entrance and circle back by the main road to have a good appreciation of this village. As you enter the gate about 100 metres is the museum that shows Dong cultural history. At night you can walk over to the hilltop to have a good night view of the village. There are may restaurants to choose from to taste local food. We had the barbeque fragrance pork rib ( local call it "Xiang Choo") which is good (actually is Black skin pig but fed with good grains and wheat hence the meat taste better)

The nature and culture around Xijiang Thousand Miao Village is still undeniably stunning and memorable. As many other reviews mentioned, Chinese Han commercialization has set in and most of the shops / restaurants down at street level are run by outsiders. My suggestion is to avoid all of that, and stick to walking around the hills, the rice terraces nearby, and enjoy the scenery. What nature gifted this area, and what the Miao locals have created organically overtime, are very much alive and well. Worth a visit still.

Zhenyuan is a great place to visit if you want to get away from the big cities and relax. I really enjoyed my stay in Zhenyuan and was able to recharge and unwind during my stay.
