Goyang (Goyang-si; Korean pronunciation: [ko.jaŋ]) is a city in Gyeonggi-do in the north of South Korea. It is part of the Seoul Capital Area, making Goyang one of Seoul's satellite cities. It is one of the largest cities in the Seoul Capital Area, with a population of just over 1 million. The city is the site of the Ilsan New Town, a planned city surrounding the Ilsandong-gu and Ilsanseo-gu districts of Goyang. It also includes Deogyang-gu which is closer to Seoul.

You could easily spends hours at this place! We only had 2 hours and it flew by. To use the spa bath no clothes can be worn and women and men have their own seperate areas. The sauna rooms are for all and you are given special clothing to wear (cotton shorts and t-shirts). There were about 8 different saunas ranging from 25-80 degrees and each one with a theme - Himalayan salt walls, clay, charcoal and more. The place is beautiful and relaxing. It is very easy to fall asleep (many did!) Unfortunately the rooftop pool was not open when we were there but it looked very nice in the photos.

Ilsan lake park is a wonderful place to take a walk especially in the fall or winter. During the winter it is lit up at night. also fantastic cherry trees in the spring time. the lake is one of the largest man made lakes in Asia. it is located next to great shopping and restaurants ( on the right side of the Lake). Nearest station is Balsan station on the orange line. Coming from the airport or Seoul station take the ARA and transfer at Digital Media city. Ignore the official metro guide book which says to transfer at Seoul Station - that will double your travel time and take 90 minutes as opposed to 40 minutes. Balsan station is also the entry to Balsan mountain which is a nice short hike. at the top you can take a trail that links you to Pukansan national park trails as well.

The Bukhansanseong is a walled mountain fortress built by connecting the peaks of Mt. Bukhan. It is 12.7km in length and 6.2km2 in area. The Bukhansanseong has never experienced a war since its completion to today. After the Imjin war (Japanese Invasion of Korea in 1592) and the Manchu war (1636), there was a discussion to build a fortress on Bukhan Mountain to provide against a national crisis. However, the fortress was built in 1711 under the reign of King Sukjong. Contrary to the long discussion, it took only 6 months to complete the entire fortress due to the advanced construction technology at that time. There were 6 great gates, 8 secret gates, 2 water gates and 143 seong-rang where soldiers were stationed near the fortress. Also, there were Haeng-gung for the king, and three Yu-young for the stationed troops of the Sam-gun-mun (Hun-ryeon-do-gam, Geum-wei-young and Eo-young-cheong) which guarded the Bukhansanseong. There were also three Jang-dae which is command posts for the Yu-young in the fortress. In addition, 7 storages for munitions and 13 military Buddhist temples where monk soldiers were stationed were set up all around the fortress.
