I have always wanted to cross over from Oregon, to go across the river and visit this museum. The history of Sam Hill was super interesting. The location and building, with the view Sam Hill loved, is very picturesque. I have seen older pieces and art work, in other museums, but if you like history, and stories, and human interest, check this place out.

Went to the evening show, unfortunately it was a very foggy night and so we were not able to see anything through the telescope. Instead we had a very interesting 2 hour discussion on astronomy. The lecturer (I'm sorry I didn't catch his name) really knew his stuff and was good at explaining difficult concepts such as the angle of the earth's tilt in layman's terms, his knowledge of the solar system was impressive and he peppered the discussion with many interesting facts about the planets and their moons. The talk was enhanced by great graphics taken off his laptop.. Anyone with an interest in space and astronomy will find this a fascinating visit.

Came twice during our stay at Maryhill State Park....both times for dinner and some wine. Had the Reuben Sandwich and the Chicken Pizza....both delicious. Our favorite wine was the Grenache. The patio is a great spot to eat. Shaded and mostly protected from the wind with beautiful views down to the Columbia. Service was excellent even with all the COVID requirements.

Stonehenge Memorial

Three miles east of Maryhill Museum of Art, just off HWY 14 and near the original Maryhill town site, stands a full-scale replica of England's Stonehenge built by museum founder Sam Hill. Stonehenge Memorial was built as the nation’s first WWI memorial. It was dedicated in 1918 to the servicemen of Klickitat County, Washington, who died in the service of their country during the Great War; it was completed in 1929 and re-dedicated on Memorial Day of that year, when 14 local service men were honored by having their names placed on the pillars of the Memorial. Samuel Hill’s crypt is located a short walk southwest of Stonehenge on a bluff overlooking the river. The site is open daily from 7 a.m. to dusk. Admission is free.

Unique memorial to local people who lost their lives during WWI and as a beacon of hope for a peaceful future. The views are stunning. Also fun for people who may never see the real Stone Henge.

Expansive is the word for this state park. Not much shade and it gets hot in the summer, but the Columbia River us right there. Windsurfing yourself or just watching others go skummun over the water. It is very picturesque and peaceful. There are good places for the kids to wade or even swim out a way. The campground us well played put and clean. The picnic area is similar. This place is well worth your stop when you are in the area.
