This national park includes a 35-mile stretch of beach on Lake Michigan for swimming plus 13 hiking trails.
As I researched from Florida what we would be able to enjoy while in Michigan I never imagined sledding down these Magnificent Dunes. Just pull up park and trek up the Dunes to sled down. The hike up was easy due to fresh powder snow from that morning. We climbed to the very top and sled down many times.

This drive offered beautiful views and plenty of turnouts with enough parking. Truly one of the most beautiful places in Michigan (or according to GMA the nation)!

Northern Michigan is the cherry capital of the United States, and almost all of our products contain this most versatile fruit. We turn them into salsas and jams, cover them with chocolate, mix them with nuts, bake them in cookies and bread, and even use them to make soda pop and wine. The mighty cherry does it all! Even in the off-season, the Cherry Republic Grand Café in Glen Arbor is a great place to stop for a coffee, a Boomchunka, or a slice of pie. Learn more about the The Café in Glen Arbor.
So many cherry based items to choose from and all are terrific! Really like the dried cherries and the chocolate covered cherries. Really - really like the Cherries On Fire Salsa which is very hot!! Many samples - a must go visit at their many locations in Michigan!

Extending two miles in length, this picturesque point-to-point hiking trail is rated moderate in skill level.
This is one of Sleeping Bear National Park's prettiest trails. It's moderately hard but doable for most if you take your time and meanwhile, enjoy the beautiful beech and maple forest around you! Beautiful views over Lake Michigan and north along the coast of the peninsula. Can get a bit crowded in early evening as folks try to catch the sunset. It's lovely any time of day.

Loop trail rated moderate in skill level takes hikers through three different environments : meadow, beach-maple forest and high bluffs overlooking Lake Michigan.
This was one of the few hikes that we did and we were glad we chose this one-absolutely stunning overlook over Lake Michigan at the top. We did the short trail to the overlook and back only. My seven-year-old loved building a sandcastle while we sat and enjoyed the view over the lake and the Manitou Islands. The parking lot filled up quickly-we got there are 10am and got one of the last spots.

The Crystal River is a great river to bring friends and family as it is a pretty slow current (unless the river is at a high point). There is a sign at one of the put-in points that indicates if the river is high, medium or low. I would not recommend kayaking or canoeing if it is low as you will end up walking your craft most of the way - this river is not deep to begin with - making it great for beginners. If you happen to tip, you can just stand up, even if you are a child, in most places. There are a lot of obstacles if the river is at the medium stage, but because the current is so slow, it is not dangerous if you get hung up. There are many old wooden posts from old docks sticking up just below the water that are hard to see until you are right on them. The scenery along this river is very beautiful and seems so remote even though you're never more than a few miles from Glen Arbor. The clearness of the water is almost unbelievable- you will think the water is too shallow but it is an illusion. Enjoy!! It's magical.

This was a nicely maintained place to take the kids or a nice place to just take a walk doe the beach! Ranger gave a very good history lecture about the rescue boats! I noticed that they had a special wheel chair available foe the sand and beach! It had special wheels for going thru the sand!
