With its gondolas, canals, amazing restaurants, and unforgettable romantic ambiance, Venice is definitely a city for one's bucket list. Waterfront palazzos, palaces, and churches make drifting down the Grand Canal feel like cruising through a painting. To really experience Venice you must go to the opera or to a classical music performance, nibble fresh pasta and pastries, and linger in the exhibit halls of an art gallery. Label lovers will drool over the high-end shopping in Piazza San Marco.

Itaca Art Studio is a delight to visit! Set in an old convent on the beautiful island of Giudecca, it contains a wonderful selection of watercolours, prints, engravings and ceramics. Monica is not only a talented artist but also a lovely person who happily takes the time to engage with her visitors. I thoroughly recommend visiting Itaca Art Studio!

My boyfriend and I spent a day shopping for a mask for me to wear to a ball. We walked the whole of Venice and found this shop by accident. The masks are all made on the premises, you can venture into the workshop as there are shelves of masks for sale in there. All masks are unique. ( remember they are artisan pieces so don't expect cheap). But they are good value for money. The owners Allesandro and Patrizia are helpful and charismatic. If you are lucky, you may get to witness Allesandro perform for you a brief history of masks. It was one of my highlights, and definately memorable. Thank you so much.

Giudecca is an island in the Venetian Lagoon, in northern Italy. It is part of the sestiere of Dorsoduro and is a locality of the comune of Venice.
Less than five minutes on a vaporetto and you can flee the maddening crowds of San Marco and find yourself on a little oasis of calm - with, arguably, the best ground level views in the whole city. Granted, there's not a lot of life on the island of Giudecca, but if you're pondering where to stay, heavily entertain the idea of being here. Not only is it peaceful, but you can sit at one of a number of cafes and restaurants eating a meal a few euros cheaper than on the 'main islands' and be perched about a foot (literally) from the lapping waters of the Giudecca canal (which means you too can gasp at the ridiculous size of the cruise ships as they make their slow progress too and from the terminal further up the canal). Your view? Across the canal to the main square...truly beautiful at night on a warm late summer's evening. In addition to a number of vaporetto stops, perhaps most crucially there's a supermarket which sells bottles of prosecco for 4 euros and limoncello for even less. Almost, on its own, worthy of making the trip.

No wonder that Campo San Barnaba was often chosen as a movie location: it is such a lovely place, not exactly a hidden gem but the big crowd usually hangs around Piazza San Marco and nearby areas and not here. This is where Indiana Jones came out of a manhole in "Indiana Jones and the last crusade" as well as the place where Katharine Hepburn's character in the movie "Summertime" ended up falling into the canal while filming her love interest's workplace. One trivia concerning the latter: Ms. Hepburn refused to be doubled for that scene and while swimming in the canal contracted an eye infection that tormented her for decades. I suggest a stop at nearby Caffe' Bar Ai Artisti (feel free to read my review if interested): you can have a nice spritz and a tramezzino while relaxing, daydreaming and enjoying the beauty of amazing and peaceful Campo San Barnaba.
