A friend-recommended stop - interesting even for a non-beer drinker (yes!). Good to see people with passion for beer and the sophisticated taste for the nuances of this drink. Small family owned company creates a good small business atmosphere and aura you want to support. Best to go with friends to enjoy the atmosphere.

Dogfish Head Craft Brewery

Reviewed By mgrunza - Wilmington, Delaware

A couple friends of ours went to the beach for the weekend to have fun and laughter and also to have a few wine tastings... part of our voyage was to Dog Fish Head Brewery.

What a great experience!

The tour of the plant, unless you are a beer enthusiast, can be a little overwhelming, but I enjoyed it and so did my wife.

As part of the tour, you receive four 3oz drinks for free! Two are of their choosing and two that you can pick from any one of their assorted flavors at the time of your visit. We enjoyed a nice lunch and some Hakki sack (which they have multiple areas to play including shuffleboard and horseshoes too )

What a great way to spend afternoon with friends. I highly recommend you take this tour if you’re in the area or if you’re at the beach and it’s raining it’s a great alternative.

If they have it when you go I highly recommend the Blood Orange and Pangaea brews!

Marvel Carriage Museum

Reviewed By MaryM94 - Lewes, Delaware

Located near corn and soybean fields, the Nutter Marvel Carriage Museum is a glorious tribute to rural Sussex County Delaware's past. The tour guide, Rosalie Walls, conveys her love for and dedication to the displays she so affectionately explains. The property includes a
100- year-old church which still holds services; a one-room schoolhouse complete with textbooks; a blacksmith shop; and two railroad freight buildings. The visitor is overwhelmed by the variety and number of horse-drawn carriages on display, and Mrs. Walls is able to give a detailed history of each one. Also on display are objects from yesteryear, such as a player piano that is still in use, dolls and dollhouses, and many, many old photographs of the Georgetown area. Also remarkable is the vast collection of telephone memorabilia which includes every kind of phone and telephone booths. There is no admission fee, but only a donation box. It is easy to be generous after such an enlightening and enthusiastic tour of so many remembrances of things past from such an engaging guide!

Treasures of the Sea

Reviewed By Ted S - Dagsboro, Delaware

Here I thought by "treasures" they meant sea shells and other sorts of natural items found in the ocean (Georgetown is on the road to Rehoboth Beach after all). WRONG! This fascinating exhibit in the library building of the Delaware Technical Community College is all about buried treasure as desired by pirates! How did these end up in Georgetown, Delaware when the treasures came from a Spanish wreck off the Florida coast? It's all about local investors buying into a hunt for the ship "Atocha" that took years of research on the part of Mel Fisher. They have a 15 minute documentary film showing how the wreck was discovered. In the museum we see several canons retrieved from the wreck. There are maps, dioramas, and descriptions of how the gold and silver was mined and then stamped into official Spanish coins. Inside what looks like a bank vault are actual gold and silver coins and jewels found on the ocean bottom. The goodies on display are claimed to be worth over 4 million dollars. The story that goes with the treasure is fascinating and extremely worth the visit. It is a small museum with a little entrance fee along with a little gift shop. The exhibits are professional and allow some artifacts to be touched (but no photography please).

Growing up in a farming community, we had access to homemade ice cream. Thick, rich, sweet and delicious.
Well that pretty much sums up Hopkins dairy. It's a treat any time we go.
One little drawback in the summer is the pungency that comes with having a dairy farm.
Close your car windows and "Forget About It". All I can say.

Sports at the Beach

We were at Sports at the Beach July 1, 2 and 3, 2017 to watch our grandson's team play baseball. The complex itself is beautiful. The entrance fee every day is horrible. To pay $7.00 per person per day is outrageous especially with the entrance fee being well over $1,000. The bleachers have much to be desired as there are no trees, or cover to get under in the heat of the day. The refreshment stands are closed before the games end leaving no place for players or guests to get drinks or food! Two times our team did not have more than 15 minutes between games and the umpires were rude when telling our children it was time to play and to get on the field. I would like to know who is running this show and why for this amount of money things are not run better???

Red Barn Country Store

Reviewed By Dan T - Georgetown, Delaware

This little gem is probably known only to locals. It's just outside of Georgetown on Rt. 404. Those who are familiar with the Red Barn known it primarily as a gift shop. The hidden gem is the free petting farm just behind the store. All of the animals are friendly and come quickly to be petted (or a treat). There are lots of goats, ponies, pigs and bunnies. There are also chickens, ducks, geese, turkeys and an emu. Small bags of animal cracker treats are available in the gift shop for a donation of any amount. The place is very "kid friendly" with hand sanitizer stations in numerous locations. There is also some playground equipment including an assortment of swings and picnic tables. Our two and half year old granddaughter had a wonderful time. Did I mention everything is free and that the owners are even friendlier than the animals!
