First of all...someone posted that the trip to/from Garibaldi/Rockaway was an hour and a half. Not so. It's actually about a half an hour. Secondly, someone mentioned that the train needs renovation. No! It is very historic and old...just perfect for a vintage ride.
The engine is fabulous! On the way to Rockaway Beach we crossed many roads at which the train is required to whistle, and it was awesome every time! That, along with the clanging of the bells at some crossings was great! The train also has a caboose that houses the ticket area and small gift shop. Then there is an enclosed car, an outside car with a roof, and a completely open car. I rode in the outside car with the roof. It was a bit windy that day, but worth it to be outside.
We had a half hour stop in Rockaway Beach before heading back. Honestly, on a Sunday morning in September there wasn't much to do on the break. It looked like maybe during the busy season there are food trucks around, but not this day.
The train runs between Highway 101 and the bay. It does not run along the ocean coast or along any bluffs or anything. It's still a nice ride, but if you are looking for dramatic scenery you won't find it here. It also runs through a lot of people's backyards. It was fun when people waved from their fishing spots or houses or the road.
Overall, it was a fun little trip, but don't expect too much out of it. Also, the seats were a little hard, so if that will bother you then you might bring a pillow or jacket to sit on.
(As always, please feel free to message me with questions about any of my reviews!)

We ran across this factory and jerky outlet on a road trip. Since we love jerky, it was a no-brainer. They had any kind of jerky and jerky items that you could even imagine along with samples. We got two of the 2 ft sticks (original and pepperoni) and steak cuts (teriyaki and old fashioned). All very yummy. Another highlight of a great trip.

We rented one of their small trolling boats (we crammed with 5 people) , and it included 4 baited crab rings for 2 hours. You set them out at intervals and then go back 15 minutes later to check for crabs. We probably got over 100 crabs in that time, but they were either under the size limit or female, which you can’t keep. We laughed all day and ended up with 2 crabs that were legal. Heck, it was a great day anyway! They cooked them for us and showed us how to clean them, and then we fought over them at dinner.
Patio is fun in the sun, drank beer while waiting for them 2 cook. We figured it was probably $75 per crab, but you just can’t pay enough for laughter, and sharing the day with good friends

Coming as we do from a City with a vibrant fishing port and yachting area is was great to enjoy the Boat Basin in Garibaldi, together with the interesting retail outlets. This is a relaxing town to visit and we liked the giant letter "G" looking down from the hillside. Well worth a visit.

This place has free parking restrooms and the best part is this is a great quick access beach. Just lovely. This is the kind of beach that kids can play on all day.

Staff is fun in their safety directions. Seat belts for all. 6 yo and 2 yo couldn't pedal but cheered everyone on!. We had to help a family in front of us when they pedaled too fast down a hill and chain slipped off. We...MoreThanks for riding with us! Just to clarify, our turn around time usually takes 10 minutes or less, enough time to turn the carts around, stretch, and use the ports-potties. Happy rail riding!

A short walk to some spectacular scenery. The waves and the noise are intense. Exhilarating and refreshing. It must be even better on a clear day. You could spend a few hours here no trouble at all but the January storm had us back in the warmth of the car in an hour. Will be back here for sure, whatever the weather.

What a delightful surprise this museum was, on a rainy summer day in Oregon. It covers a lot of areas related to Garibaldi: sailing/ships/shipwrecks, lumber, fishing, Coastal Indians, guns. There are exhibits on WWII in the area and vintage videos. I enjoyed the display and text about ships' figureheads.
An entire room is dedicated to the Captain Robert Gray, unsung and noteworthy explorer of the Columbia River - before Vancouver or Lewis&Clark. What an interesting life he had!
For the children, there are videos and a chance to dress up in settler or ship clothing, create a wooden basket, or see how the natives carved canoes from a single tree.
The gift shop has tasteful, unusual and well-priced items for all ages; the staff was very friendly and helpful.

I love this store. I do about a third of my Christmas shopping here every July during our one annual vacation to visit families who live nearby. They're kid-friendly, loaded with nifty gifts, shells, shirts, and all kinds of neat statuary. There may be other stores like this in Rockaway Beach, but I haven't felt the need to shop elsewhere since I found Flamingo Jim's!

We went to this park to find two geocaches and came away with a super hike. Our geoDog loved it. Beautiful trails with lots of interesting history signage to read along the way. Very quiet as we were the only ones there. I highly recommend it!!!
