I am so glad we decided to visit these gardens. Fabulous views, an amazing rope bridge walk, humming birds, and a peaceful oasis that gives a real sense of the abundant vegetation, both native and generally tropical. Simply Beautiful ! (with a good gift shop, and nice restaurant at car park)

A beautiful and unusual iron building, a cornerstone of religious life on the island.
The first thing I saw of the Cathedral was the steeple. At the top was the cross. Underneath was the time. Part of the cathedral was attached to houses. It is painted in yellow. Inside theu have a beautiful organ. Behind the altar is Jesus on the cross. Lots of pillars inside the Cathedral The benches were made of wood. I liked the many stained-glass windows. As it was Christmas season, there was a pine tree with anything to make it attractive! The Cathedral was finished at 1893. . A must see!

Built in France in 1889, this library was shipped piece by piece to the island, where it stands today, a beautiful monument to slavery abolitionist Victor Schoelcher.
Fort-de-France is not really an obligatory stop during your visit to the French Caribbean island of Martinique, but within the city, this building certainly is. It is located on the edge of the Savane Park and walking distance from the cathedral and all other main sites. A stunning building!

This French fort is best known for its architecture and its commanding views of the coast.
On a hot sunny day, we almost gave up the idea to find the entrance of the fort until we found the kiosk across the street at the corner of the park. We purchased the tour tickets (8E or $10) and were told to come back at a certain time for the group tour. Maurice, an excellent and experience guide was very informative. And we also had a new female guide who is in training. We learned a lot in the 1 1/2 hour tour. This is an active military fort and they takes it very seriously by unlocking and locking the gate as we were visiting inside. You cannot get in for free or by yourself and we were only taken to the parts of the fort where visitors were allowed. Excellent view of the port and the city up at the top of the fort. The best place to be while we stopped as a cruise port.

Fort-de-France's central park, featuring beautifully landscaped gardens and the famous statue of Napoleon's Empress Josephine.
One of the more interesting sights in Fort-de-France is the statue of Josephine in the park. She's headless (and will probably remain so) and has been vandalized, but this is perhaps not surprising given her relationship with Martinique. There are several small places to eat here for a very reasonable price, especially in the evenings.
