It seems like most folks have a grandmother, great-uncle or some other distant relative that used to live in Brooklyn, or perhaps a friend that lives there now. In the early 1900s, it was a mecca for immigrants arriving via Ellis Island. A hundred years later, young professionals and artists left pricey Manhattan digs for Brooklyn's cheaper and more expansive space. Neighborhoods like Brooklyn Heights and Park Slope, which had fallen into disrepair over the years, were restored and reborn as funky enclaves. Walk or bike over the historic Brooklyn Bridge (or ride the subway) to Brooklyn Heights for a stroll along the Promenade and breathtaking views of the Manhattan skyline. Meander through Prospect Park and the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens for a taste of nature in the urban wilds. Catch a performance at the world-famous Brooklyn Academy of Music. From the delicious Italian restaurants of Bensonhurst to the Irish bars that line the avenues of Bay Ridge, from the hotdogs and rollercoasters of Coney Island to the bagels and handball courts of Greenpoint, Brooklyn is a state of mind as well as a dynamic community. Discover why, no matter where people move on to, they remain Brooklynites at heart.

In the past year, hubby and I have attended two shows at the Kings Theatre. The theatre is huge and beautiful. Both times, we arrived about 45 minutes before showtime. We lined up outside and within 10 minutes, we were inside. Security is tight and organized. We went through a metal detector. No outside food or drink allowed. All bags are searched. Once inside, there’s a huge atrium. Before we made our way to our seats, we marveled at the beauty of this massive place. Then we went upstairs. There are several food and beverage stations on both levels so there weren’t any long lines. The prices are typical event prices. The women’s bathroom on the 2nd Level has a lot of stalls and is nice. The lounge area is nice too. The staff are very friendly, helpful and ensure you find your way to your seat. Both times, we sat in the Mezzanine Overhang (Section 16). We sat in Row A and D respectively. If you’re facing the stage, this section is on the extreme right on the 2nd Level. I prefer to be upstairs away from the crowds. The sound level was very good, and not eardrum busting. Both shows were great! I will return to the Kings Theatre and do recommend this venue. Tips: 1) Get there early especially if you’re driving so you can park in the Sears lot (behind the theatre) before it fills up. 2) The theatre lets you in about 45 minutes before showtime so you’ll have plenty of time to get drinks and food and go to the bathroom before the show starts. 3) Ladies, go to the bathroom before the show starts to avoid long lines. 4) In my opinion, the best seats are upstairs in the Mezzanine Overhang (Section 16 or 9 on the seating chart).... Rows A and E have only two seats which are nice and cozy. Good seats for you and your date. It feels like VIP. A staff member told me those are the best seats in the house. 5) The space between the rows is good so a tall person can sit down without their knees getting smashed by the seat in front of them. The seats are wide and comfortable too. 6) The first time we went, there was a waiter from the bar who came over before the show started and introduced herself. She said she would check in from time to time and take drink orders. (We never saw her again. It would have been nice to receive that service being that we were so far in the front. We were in Row A (upstairs)). 7) The vantage point from our seats was great. We saw everything and there weren’t people standing up in front of us or that constant traffic flow of people going to and from their seats. We we were the only two people in our row (first time). If you like the crowds, standing up and running to the stage, then sit on the floor level. However, the experience is a lot different on the Mezzanine level for those who want to chill and enjoy the show. 8) I enjoyed both shows with unobstructed viewing and uninterrupted. Those seats are worth the extra money. I highly recommend the Mezzanine Overhang seats in Section 16 or 9 located on the 2nd Level. See the seating chart. 9) We drove and parked in the Sears parking lot one block behind the theatre. I believe they call it municipal parking. The parking is free and a short walk to the theatre. The lot is well lit.

Well-known Brooklyn street.
I am most familiar with the end by the Brooklyn Bridge through Grand Army Plaza, and this is all very dense and very cool. I would live here if I could. Lots of great restaurants and cafes, and the subway runs underneath. But it continues and you should explore marvelous Brooklyn as the whole world is here.
