Build an Ark Animal Rescue

Wow, we read the reviews so decided to take our 9 yr old triplets one day during our spring break. It was just a short trip from Blue Ridge and was absolutely the highlight of their trip! They LOVED it and they could have visited everyday after! Susan was so welcoming and started letting the kids feed and pet all the many different kinds of animals the minute we walked in. She had little food stations near each animal stall and the girls even bottle fed a little black and white lamb named Sparky! Rascal the rescue dog greeted us and the kids fed potbelly pigs, emus, lambs, chickens, rabbits, Guinea pigs, sheep, llamas all inside and then she had a basket of food ready for them to go outside to feed the horses as well. We all had a ball and her story is incredible of the barn being demolished by a Cat5 tornado several years back but somehow all of the animals and people there surviving!! Then all that many volunteers who know and love Susan and her farm helped to rebuild it with 911 NYC Fire Dept group leading the rebuild!! A wonderful time with and amazing giving lady. Not to be missed!

Mountain Valley Farm

On our mountain cabin retreat for Christmas week we visited Mountain valley farm to purchase something for Christmas dinner. We loved the farm seeing rabbits running free from one place to another. The property was beautiful with barns and a real farm feel. We also saw a baby calf in a shelter keeping warm. They had pigs and chickens not many out mostly in barns because it was so cold. I purchased 2 filet mignons and a cheddar cheese block. Those filets were the best we have ever eaten. They were tender and so flavorful. I wanted to buy milk & hamburger meat but as it was Christmas Eve they were sold out. I would definitely go back there again and they ship out of state. Yeah!

So many great treats to try and buy. We sampled apples and bought an apple pie and pecan pie. The pecan pie was outstanding! Apple pie was very good. Took home bread and butter pickles ( best we’ve ever eaten) sadly they don’t have mail order and it will be a while before we can get back up there. The blackberry and strawberry preserves are excellent and the apple bread was also delicious.
We can’t wait to go back for more treats!

R&A is hands down my favorite Apple House in the area. The people who own and work there are super nice and friendly. They not only have apples, they also carry local sweet potatoes, onions, peaches (in the summer), baked goods, seasonal vegetables and a wide assortment of relishes, jams and sauces. They are located on Hwy. 52E, east of Ellijay and offer lunch items, such as BBQ.

Enjoyed a tasting of 10 different wines, two tastings, five lines each. Really enjoyed the subtle differences between the whites in the Reds. Purchased the few bottles for later enjoyment. Come, listen to music, and have a nice relaxing time.

So surprised at some of the reviews I've read on here after going. We had a wonderful time. To address:

Apples: Yes, there are slimmer pickings now. The majority of the trees are very picked through although there was still plenty for the crowd of people there to fill up there bags. We were on the right side of the road which has different varieties. Now, most of the people all pick over the same places. But later, we realized there are parts of the orchard that noone seems to get to that still have prime picking and large apples. One of these was near where zip line ends.

Crowds: There were a lot of people but it wasn't a problem. Apple line went quickly even though it was longish. Maybe 15 min? Unless you were buying pies there weren't lines in the store when we were there. Wonderful apple cider donuts, also some produce and of course, you can buy pre bagged apples.

Time: We got there at 2:30 and although we didn't get to do everything we wanted it still seemed like plenty of time and and a long enough day there. We filled our 1 peck bag spending a good bit of time in the orchards. Went zip lining , watched the pig races and bought some stuff at the store.

Price: I believe we paid 5 per person plus $12 for the 1 peck bag and 15 a piece for ziplining. Cow milking and pig races and a few other things free. There were additional activities at cost including petting zoo. The 1 peck bag held plenty of apples for us. We were going to go with the larger bag which was $20 but after filling the bag we had we found it was more then enough for the four of us.

Etc: Zip lining was super fun! This was my first time and I thought it was going to be kind of dinky given that it looked short but it was awesome. Girls (11) loved it as well.
We did wait about 20 min for this. Girls loved the pig races and the guy holding them did a great job and was super enthusiastic. I beleive they also had food- I saw someone with french fries but they were closing up at 6 when we left. We ended up getting Poole's Real Pitt Barbecue which is about 10 minutes away and was a sweet little local place.

Vets Memorial Park

Reviewed By Tom A - Ellijay, Georgia

The Veteran’s Memorial Bridge itself is not the attraction. The attraction is the complete memorial of which the bridge is part. It is a pedestrian bridge which crosses the Coosawattee River connecting additional parking and soccer fields to a larger city park. However, it is an attractive bridge with plenty of lighting for those evening strolls. This is a nice place to sit in the evening watching the river and just chatting with your spouse.

Had a great family day here. Spent about 3 hours here. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Took the hayride so the kids could pick apples. The kids also painted rocks and got to taste apple cider and apple doughnuts. We plan to come back soon!
