If you have an interest in pioneer history, or you just need a great rest stop with clean restrooms, stop at the Interpretive Center! It's great! It's also a great place to take kids, especially if they are learning about history. You could seriously spend several hours there! In the past, they have one weekend in late May or June, when they have something like living history days. Outdoor displays and activities. People dressed in period costumes, etc. It's seriously great! Plan to spend the night in the area though because you will be tired from all the fun!

Been wanting to visit this store for ever, finally made the time. Love the GS Garcia family history of saddle, bit and spur making. Their products are gorgeous! Upstairs gallery is rich with history and the shop is busy every day creating new goodies for clients. They even have items that once belonged silent movie stars like Charkie Chaplan! That's a lot of history. Downstairs is filled with beautiful new shiny things, something for everyone looking for an authentic Garcia. Loved the staff, they took time to educate me, showing me so many awesome bits. And of course I had to get a tshirt!! Stop in and look around, next door is Elko's history museum and the gal is a native of Elko with so many facts and stories to share!!

We spent at least two hours viewing the varied collections and special showing of Black Cowboy photos, etc. relating to the theme of the National Cowboy Poetry Gathering. Surprised to meet up with Jim Brooks & his wife. Found we had ND connection. What a great history of ranching & cowboying he had in his life. The International wildlife collection provided mainly by the Wanamakers was fascinating. Definitely worth visiting and spending time at this wonderful facility. Knowledgeable, helpful and friendly docents as well.

Stopped in to learn about the local cowboy culture as well as the famous Cowboy Poetry Gathering. Upon entering, I had the good fortune to meet Ken, the gift shop manager. A lifelong resident of Elko and former educator, he turned out to be the perfect 'guide' for my visit. He not only highlighted the exhibits inside the center, but he also shared stories as well as provided me with a unique insight on what it means to be a 'cowboy' and what life is like in this remote corner of Nevada. Absolutely fascinating! The museum had several exhibits. One exhibit of particular interest were intricately designed spurs. Wow! These are absolutely works of art. A short film gave me a brief introduction to cowboy poetry and 'life on the range.' Be sure to visit the adjacent/attached bar - the longest I've ever seen. Admission is free, but a suggested donation is appreciated - and worthwhile. Perhaps someday I'll make it back to Elko for the Annual Cowboy Poetry Gathering.

Used to live in the area and returned to visit family. I can't stress enough that visitors need to take the trip through Elko and visit the Rubies and Lamoille Canyon. So many people pass this up and truly miss one of or possibly the most beautiful canyon in all of Nevada.
