What makes a museum top dog? There is a lot of competition for where to go on the weekends. The difference here is passion. They love their museum, the cars, and the space. There is always something going on, car shows, food trucks, kid activities. They also have a ice cream parlor and popcorn for the kids. Our kids love going on the weekend, Especially when the hot wheels show is going on.

Walked the Strand one night, both north and south of the pier. It was nice, pleasant, and safe. Lots of nice beach houses to admire while walking the Strand.

Keep in mind that the City of Manhattan Beach has a very strict ban on smoking in ALL areas except inside a private home, certain hotel rooms, and in moving cars. That means no smoking outdoors, even on the beach, pier, Strand, etc.

Redondo Beach

This is still my favorite beach in Southern California after all these years! It’s clean and family friendly, with gorgeous views of the Palos Verdes Peninsula and beautiful sunsets. Great for surfing, sitting in the sand, playing some sports, bringing kids, splashing in the waves, etc. You can also enjoy a nice walk or bike ride along the strand (concrete path). There is metered parking along Esplanade, or you can find parking along a street nearby like one of the avenues. There are many fun restaurants and shops either in the Riviera Village around Avenue I or up north at the Redondo Beach pier. You won’t regret visiting this fabulous beach!

Marina Beach

Reviewed By DoctorRetired - Los Angeles

This is a lovely man-made beach. The further you walk from what is known as the Venice Pier, the more isolated the beach. It is quite beautiful. Aside from some planes leaving LAX in the distance, you can see the sailboats, etc. as the come out from the marina. This is not a place for people who want to be near goods and services. If so, stay near the pier or walk into older Venice Beach proper, which is crowded, noisy, but has tons of shops and restaurants. The best of the are is the Santa Moncica Pier, but again packed with tourists and things to do. If you want a nice, quite beach, then park in the lot and find yourself a private spot in an oasis.

Manhattan Beach Pier

Reviewed By NativeAngelena - United States

Was at the pier one night in September just before sundown. There are signs that state the city law that prohibits smoking in the city and even on the pier. At the far end of the pier was someone smoking. This pier is just a plain pier, with only the little aquarium at the far end. What could've been a nice quiet sunset walk out over the water was spoiled by this inconsiderate smoker.

It was too late to see the aquarium as it has limited hours.

Smokers take note and non-smokers rejoice:
The City of Manhattan Beach only allows smoking in private homes, certain hotel rooms, and in moving cars.
SMOKING IS PROHIBITED in ALL public places and that includes ALL outdoor areas such as outside of buildings, sidewalks, streets, open spaces, the beach, pier etc.
The City of Hermosa Beach, next door to the south, also has a strict ban on public smoking.

Old Town Music Hall

Reviewed By DeborahandAndy - Los Angeles, CA

Attended the 2:30pm Saturday matinee of black and white comedy movies- The show opened with a great piano piece by man of many talents (sold snacks and was the projectionist). Then Bill (one of the Bills and co-founder of the Old Town Music Hall) played several pieces on the organ- when the curtains opened- revealed riveting neon lights that outlined the pipes and pieces. A screen came down just behind the organ and information on the current and upcoming programs were shown. Next, a sing along- words of old favorites (e.g., Tea for two) projected on the screen while Bill played and the audience sang. We say three short silent movies (Noah Ark's Jr with Our Gang 1920s and another with a car, and Love em & weep- with Laurel & Hardy before they were a duo) that were accompanied by Bill playing the organ. After a 15 minute intermission we saw the last three short movies that had sound (e.g., a 1930s- Valentine's Day at School with the Little Rascals, The Dentist with WC Fields, and The Chimp with Laurel & Hardy).
Great coffee and delicious fresh macaroons (from Porto's Bakery). A wonderful way to spend 3 hours!

Downtown Manhattan Beach

Cute beach town with a variety of expensive boutiques and nice cafes. Beach itself is lovely. Parking can be difficult - not many spaces and some are only for 2 hours, which may not be enough for a proper tour. Close to LAX so good place to pass time.
