I just recently found out about Watershed Nature Center while searching for an outdoor recreation option in or near Madison County. My wife & I visited in mid-morning on a pleasant Saturday in early September, with the paved parking lot entered off Tower Avenue & the Nature Center trail entry attached directly to the lot. The trail encircling the two lakes (Upper & Lower) are split into unpaved & paved sections - the latter attached to the fascinating "Marsh Walk" - allowing access to a wide variety of natural views for people of all physical abilities. We encountered no more than a half-dozen other visitors around the grounds during our 90-minute stroll. The range of natural environments (forest, wetlands, prairies) in such a small space surrounded by suburban development is very unusual, and the caretakers of the property do a great job of keeping the Center accessible and maintained and clean. It's a very good destination for lovers of plants & wildlife as well as for someone looking for a quiet space to decompress, and I imagine it would be beautiful no matter the season you visit. The Watershed Nature Center is owned by a non-profit organization, and is staffed by volunteers. So be aware that the Welcome Center is open only by appointment. For fair weather visits, there is a small adjacent park ground with public restrooms & a picnic shelter which offer a convenient place to enjoy an outdoor lunch before or after your exploration within the Nature Center. My wife & I both thoroughly enjoyed our time at the Watershed Nature Center. We hope to return in the fall & possibly in winter to experience the seasonal changes in this beautiful and serene space.

I used to take my grandchildren to the Children's Museum when they were younger, especially during the summer when boredom sets in. They have updated and added new stations for the children to peruse.
