Girdwood ATV Tour There are no road signs marking the entrance to this part of the Chugach State Park. Most locals don’t even know about this wild scenic area. Adventure seekers do not need to travel many miles out of town searching for a true Alaskan backcountry riding experience. Alaska ATV Adventures focuses on small groups, providing excellent wildlife viewing and unrivaled scenery accompanying a ride specifically tailored to the group. This awesome trail winds through the northern reaches of the Pacific Coastal Temperate Rainforest about ½ way between Anchorage and Girdwood. The Girdwood 3-hour tour includes a hike downhill to spectacular waterfall where salmon come to spawn mid-June through September; during this time there is a very good chance of seeing bears from the overlook and high alpine meadows. Tours Depart Daily: 10:00AM April 23rd - May 24th, 2017 10:00AM and 2:00PM May 25th - September 30th, 2017

The Quilt Cache has over 1600 bolts of beautiful fabric as well as a nice selection of Notions, Books and Patterns.
Carla, the owner, always has a great selection of top-of-the-line quilt fabric, Alaska themed items and terrific patterns. I love the Alaska quilting items by watercolorist Teresa Ascone. I can never leave empty handed!

This nature center offers hiking trails and guided walking tours.
Although the Nature Center is closed due to COVID-19, we went here to do a self guided hike. We planned on doing the Albert Loop, but it was closed because the salmon spawning brought a large influx of bear. We chose to do another trail, the Dew Mound trail and spent an enjoyable 4 hours hiking. We liked that there were multiple trails that entwined and allowed us to add on to our journey, but cut back when we became fatigued. Beautiful setting nestled amongst the mountains.

Fun hike, a bit of a scramble toward the end. Lots of people including trail marathoners—we got lapped about 3 times by a women who didn’t even appear to have broken a sweat! Of note, lots of dogs (nice) but lot and lots of dog poo (not so nice). Just watch your step and if you have a dog PICk up the poop and bring it back down with you (saw lots of poop bags people left...yuck)

As a neighborhood, we’re having a conversation in the barbara falls area. The directions on the computer maps are correct. We now have non interactive street art (Not mine) that directs you to keep going slow and straight on riverview/waterfall dr. Do not be deceived by the street sign that reads “barbara falls rd”. It will damn you to hell with all the dead ends. You will take your first right at the STOP sign at the bottom of riverview/waterfall. Drive down till you see the fork in the road. Take a left at the fork and try not to park in the fire lane. Have fun. Remember fish will be coming into the confluence of the river soon, and that means bears. Carry bear spray, they live here. This beautiful place is wonderful to hike any time of the year. Bring ice cleats in the winter;) In response to the parking, the entrance is a cul de sac and the no parking signs mean it’s a fire lane. Most of trail heads in residential areas have this issue.
