We went on a weekday in winter which was great because there was nobody there. Obviously too cold to swim though. I was a little annoyed that even though the river trail was closed we were still charged full price. Thankfully when we asked what else there was to do we were informed of raimer ranch just down the road that had hiking that our pass would cover.

Duchman Family Winery

The Duchman Family Winery was founded in 2004 by Drs. Lisa and Stan Duchman in a quest to bring world-class winemaking to Central Texas and the Texas Hill Country. Their love of the unique Italian grape varieties as well as similar weather patterns to Texas inspired them to work with viticultural consultant Bobby Cox and growers in the Texas High Planes AVA to produce grapes that would allow their winemakers, Dave Reilly and Mark Penna, to experiment with making wines like Vermentino, Sangiovese, and Dolcetto. The winery continues to source the majority of its fruit from the Texas High Plains AVA, where cooler temperatures and a more “continental” climate are ideal for the production of fine wine made from Italian grape varieties. As the winery grows, the Duchmans remain committed to their goal to produce food-friendly fine wine in Central Texas using Texas-grown fruit exclusively. With an eye on the future, Duchman Family Winery continues to develop innovative winemaking and grape growing techniques in order to provide wine that truly reflects a taste of Texas for years to come.Duchman Family Winery remains one of the top wine destinations in Texas. All of the winery’s current releases can be sampled and purchased at the winery’s tasting room and the estate’s beautiful Italianate villa and grounds are open to visitors who can enjoy their wines with a picnic lunch! We have picnic tables outdoors in the shade of the oaks, or pick a cozy spot inside the winery hallway with a windowed view into the barrel room, fermentation tank, or production area for bottling and labeling of our wines.

Excellent wines, friendly and knowledgeable pourers. Good selection of very dry to semi-sweet wines. The Montepulciano was especially good. Dry but mild red. The Trattoria Lisina Restaurant right next door serves a variety of Italian dishes from lesser expensive pastas to fine dining selections.

On the way back from baseball in Dripping Springs, my husband and I saw the sign for this unusual Texas business. We took the detour and were pleased with our find. Great little cafe and gift shop and tours lure visitors daily. Bought oil and balsamic for gifts. They even have olive trees for sale. I called to order more after our visit. They need a new phone system but is hard to get a call through and talk to a person

We were on our way to Austin when we decided to stop here to check out the tasting room. It was definitely one of the best experiences during our road trip. The prices are decent and the vodka was superb. You can try for different flavors in a shot glass for $10.00. I loved the peach and lemon flavors so much I ended up buying a bottle of each to take home. I would definitely suggest this place if you are a vodka lover like me.

The wine is not theirs...they just sell it. The staff is friendly and they will tell you that the wine is not theirs. They do have vineyards, but the grapes have not grown in yet. The surroundings are pleasant. There is a real winery across the street. Nevertheless, some of the wines are tasty. Remember...if you came to Salt Lick you came for bar be que, not for wine. You can, however, bring in your beer.

Twisted X Brewing Company

At Twisted X Brewing Company, it’s simple; we love craft beer as much as the Lone Star State! We specialize in creating handmade Texan-American beers that are made with high-quality, local products. Our passion to make great beer has led to us inventing Tex Mex Beer™, which combines Texas craft beer with Mexican-style spirit and flavor. Our mission is to have fun, treat people right, and bring something new to our local market through beer. We’re passionate about combining hops, grains, yeast, and water into your glass to create something unique that we’re really proud of and that you will enjoy and share with your friends and family. There are many people out there who find one beer they like and are too afraid of the unknown and never branch out. This is where Twisted X comes in. Our Tex Mex Beer™ began with the goal of educating people on how different ingredients can make complex beers that will make you rethink how you view beer. Our team of brewers come from diverse backgrounds, but they all share the love of great beer and bring their own unique recipes and ideas to the table. We have maintained the 3 barrel brewing system that Tex Mex Beer™ was founded on to allow our brewers to create small batch beers that capture the types and styles of beer they love. Come by the brewery for a tour and samplings or pick up a six pack at your local vendor. Pour yourself a Twisted X brew and always drink upstream from the herd.

Camp Ben McCulloch hosts the Old Settler's Music Festival every April. The camp ground is clean and the event is first rate. It is a family friendly safe environment to enjoy friends and music. There are electrical hook ups and "primitive" camping spots to fit all budgets. The grounds of this camp are very nice and the showers are warm. Onion Creek runs through the camp and offers some good swimming holes to cool off in the heat of the day.

We felt really positive on arriving and having an excellent spirit tasting in the tasting room, but drinks and dinner were both much more expensive than anticipated, with 2 chicken wings costing $7 and a $5 bowl of vegetables consisting mostly of Brussels sprouts! Beers were below average quality and premium priced.

Really felt taken advantage of.
