The history of city goes back to more than 850 years ago... some assumes it was founded even before Moscow or right after it. Though it's a morden city you can see and feel pure Russian type of living diferrent by the way from touristic hits like Suzdal or Yaroslavl. To know more about city history please visit the local City Museum with its interesting exposition which depicts 'ups and downs' of its life. There are several hotels to choose from, the most recommended is 'Four Crowns'. Better visit it in summer but other season are good also,

A nice look at old Russia. A recognition of a European influenced history. Each one of the sculptures tells a story and is described in English.

Despite being worn out from so many interesting sights in the area I found this one to be well worthwhile. It is beautifully built and maintained, it is quiet and visited only by the locals. It is beautifully decorated inside and out and there was no charge to enter and no bossy staff preventing photographs.

Thousands of tons of earth have been piled up around the church to make a defensive hill and moat structure. A testimony to the value of the church and its contents and the warring atmosphere of the era.

The English inscription informs you of the origin of the city, its name, the connection the area has with Greece and Ukraine.

New (2006), good quality monument of russian princes and first russian saints. It's located near the monastery walls in their name.
