Nestled on the southern tip of the Gulf of Tadjoura, the seaside capital of Djibouti is a modest harbor town and a major port of trade and travel via Ethiopia and other points in Africa, especially as the terminus for the Djibouti-Addis Ababa Railway. Beaches along the eastern shore provide some respite from the blistering heat, while the chaotic central market is alive with activity throughout the day.

Lac Assal is 150m (492ft) below sea level, and is an aquatic wilderness surrounded by dormant volcanoes and black lava fields. The lake is a one-day trip on the tarmac road west from the capital. You will pass Lac Goubet on the way, a seawater loch known locally as 'the pit of demons', then pass a stark, apocalyptic volcanic neck separating the two lakes.
lake assal has amazing view, lake assal is also a lowest place in africa -155m below sea level and second saline lake in the world

This park is a beautiful mixture of terrains. Some is desert and some is beautiful 1000 meter high canyons. Greenery is everywhere but most of the trees are in the canyon areas. This park is best visited with a two night or more stay. The drive in is demanding and rough. But, the camp at Day is well-maintained, as is the camp at Bankouale. The hike between the two is breathtakingly beautiful. The greens of the forest floor, the trees, the flowers, the mountains, the reds and oranges of the canyon walls, all of it provides magnificent views along the hike, which descends 1000 meters. I would skip the rock art because the drive is arduous for two hours and the art limited, after a one hour hike. We were told there is even more art another couple of hours walk further, but there isn't enough time in the day for that, unless one camps further out, or goes really early.
