Dallas (/ˈdæləs/) is a city in the U.S. state of Texas. It is the most populous city in the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex, which is the fourth most populous metropolitan area in the United States. The city's population ranks ninth in the U.S. and third in Texas after Houston and San Antonio. The city's prominence arose from its historical importance as a center for the oil and cotton industries, and its position along numerous railroad lines. The bulk of the city is in Dallas County, of which it is the county seat; however, sections of the city are located in Collin, Denton, Kaufman, and Rockwall counties. According to the 2010 United States Census, the city had a population of 1,197,816. The United States Census Bureau's estimate for the city's population increased to 1,317,929 as of July 1, 2016.

My first visit to the Schiele Museum provided a most pleasant surprise. The museum, although small, is packed with interesting exhibits that are beautifully presented and well documented. The dinosaur exhibit featured smaller species, and the models appeared to be realistic and set in suitable habitats. The animals were obviously made by excellent taxidermists and were also set in realistic, interesting habitats. Native American objects and models were respectful of their cultures and good teaching tools. Because it was pouring rain, we were not able to explore the trail and outside exhibits, but we'll go back for those. Also, our tour group was limited in time, so we did not see the planetarium show, another reason to return.

Heading for Hickory the gas gauge told me we had to make a stop, fortunately we spotted the sign for the Gaston County Museum and headed for Dallas, NC. The area of Dallas is close to Gastonia, one of the areas historically attached to the cotton mills of yester year and not the sort of town you would generally head for on a sightseeing trip. But, the museum is a gem of a find and the curator an absolute gentleman, having spent his early years in the UK we had lots to talk about!
The museum is built throughout the Historic Hofman Hotel, with a number of rooms on the second floor restored to portray a vision of the original Hotel.
The first floor has a number of rooms from the 1800's and a fantastic exhibit on the cotton mill industry, at the rear a collection of carriages finishes of this amazing portrayal of local history.
Not the place you would normally head for, but if your in Charlotte looking for days out, go find it now and see the new moonshine exhibit.

This is a lovely park with oodles of parking. The mountains have several trials that range from easy to...Elizabeth I'm coming to join ya (In my Feed Sanford voice). We took the Pinnacle trail. It took us about 2 hours...it is one of the strenuous trails...so if you're not about that life...don't take that one lol. Lots of opportunities for photography if you're into nature photography. Also has camp grounds if you wish to rough it over night. I think there is a cost...just check the website.

We had an awesome time! I went with my husband and some friends to do the 5:00 pm tour. It was really interesting to learn about how the owners started the business and all the chemistry behind the making of the delicious rum! I give them 5 stars for presentation, content, and rum tasting! Would highly recommend a visit to this local gem and for any local or tourists looking for a fun activity in the area! The owners are amazing people with a passion for the business!

Terrific restoration at Rankin Lake Park!
In past years this was an old, run down, unsafe park. It was unsafe and under used.
Today it is a year round active facility. Well kept. Great for lakeside activities, picnicking, disc golf, hiking, jogging...
Convenient location off I85 and 321. Ample parking.

The tasting room has only been open a few weeks. They had a hot dog stand set up outside for a quick snack. The space was inviting and comfortable although a little rustic. Wonderful holiday outing between Christmas and New Years with the family (grandparent, young kids). Excellent size (not overwhelming). Friendly staff. Fun "passport" stations for kids. Trains in orchid building particularly magical (seasonal display). We live in Roanoke, VA, and currently have an annual membership we're enjoying despite the drive. Sincerely doing a good job attracting new audiences.

This park made me wish I was a child again. I've never seen anything like the playground that people call "The Castle". It's an all wooden structure that consists of swings, slides, a fort, a ship, a car, a sandpit where you can dig for dinosaur bones, places to climb, places to hide, and it's all connected by ramps and catwalks. This is definitely the best part of the park.
The 58 acre park also has 4 lighted soccer fields, 2 batting cages, 4 lighted baseball fields, picnic shelters, volleyball area, 2 horseshoe areas, kids gymnastics area, and 3 miles of paved walking trails around and through the park.
If you are passing by or through Gastonia you really must check it out. If you are traveling by car with kids this is the perfect place for them to burn off some energy to make for a quieter car ride when you leave.

I spent my childhood in Gastonia and thought I was, fairly, knowledgeable about the history of the area. After visiting Allen Milligan's Pictorial History Museum, I realized I knew hardly anything of area.
Allen adds, greatly, to the museum experience with his vast knowledge of Gaston and surrounding counties. His passion and energy will amaze you. Listening to Allen tell stories describing the photos is almost hypnotic.
The photographs he has collected and processed is unimaginable. Thousands8 are categorized by area and subject makes for easy viewing and can be purchased.
The museum is housed in a quaint old house on Catawba Ave in Belmont. If you have trouble finding it, anyone in Belmont can give directions.
The museum is free to all and you can make donations if you desire.
